Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) is seeking an acute care surgeon for a faculty appointment in the Department of Surgery. The position includes clinical responsibilities on each of the three services (Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, Critical Care); and the applicant must be dedicated to the teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows in Acute Care Surgery. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) in New Brunswick, NJ is the core teaching hospital for RWJMS and one of only three ACS verified Level I Trauma Centers in the state. RWJUH is a tertiary referral center for cardiac, vascular, and neuroscience services, as well as home to the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. MD required. Must have completed a Residency Training Program in General Surgery and fellowship trained. Candidates should be boarded or board eligible by the American Board of Surgery. Candidate must possess (or be eligible to apply for) a valid NJ medical license.Overview:
Provide for clinical care of patients across the full spectrum of Acute Care Surgery (Trauma, Surgical Critical Care (ICU), Emergency General Surgery (EGS)), including in-patient and out-patient (office/clinic) at RWJUH as well as EGS and ICU coverage at RWJ Somerset Hospital.Provide complete and timely consults as requested by other specialists or response to trauma activation.Provide clear instructions, explanations, and options available regarding diagnosis, treatment, medications, and follow-up to patients, family members, and other health care team members.Maintain adequate physician office hours in order to be accessible to new consults and follow-up patients.Establish and attend regularly scheduled departmental physician staff meetings, M&M Conference, Grand Rounds, and other departmental/divisional meetings deemed appropriate by the Chief/Chairman.Participate in divisional defined on-call and rotational coverage for all aspects of Acute Care Surgery as is necessary to cover clinical needs.Participate in the development and update of divisional protocols, guidelines, and critical care pathways to establish and maintain a standard level of care for Acute Care and/or Trauma cases.Provide mentorship to more junior faculty in the way of clinical, leadership, and academic development.Continue to develop and pursue academic/research interest focus: education/diversity/equity/inclusion efforts of the division/department/medical school/national efforts.Safeguard patient confidentiality at all times. Limit work/patient related discussions to private areas.Complete required medical documentation included in patients' charts in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws.Provide accurate, timely, and complete information required for billing.Effectively communicate with patients, family members, and other health care team members.Demonstrate strong organizational skills; effectively delegate and prioritize work assignments; serve as a role model and team player.Campus:
