FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Director of Athletics.Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.Fort Valley State University is an affirmative action, equal opportunity institution and does not discriminate against applicants, students, or employees on the basis of race, gender, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, or marital or veteran status.JOB SUMMARY:This position directs the university’s student athletic programs and activities.ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:Manages the day-to-day operations of the department.Hires, trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.Prepares budget requests and manages assigned budgets.Coordinates fundraising activities, including the activities of support/booster groups.Coordinates and approves team schedules.Monitors student eligibility for sports.Directs marketing and promotional activities.Establishes travel policies and procedures for sports teams.Prepares and implements strategic plans for the department based on the university’s mission and goals.Serves as college liaison to national and regional sports organizations.Teaches courses in the incumbent's area of specialty; performs other academic duties and activities.Performs related duties.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree required.Over five years of related experience required.Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Master’s degree in a related field.USG Core Values StatementThe University System of Georgia is comprised of our 26 institutions of higher education and learning, as well as the System Office.
