Research Scientist, Animal Models
University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, United States, 77246
The Research Scientist will apply technical expertise and experience to plan, coordinate, design, supervise, and carry out cancer biology-based research projects focused on the discovery and development of novel and innovative therapies for cancer. Perform experiments involving molecular biology and cell biology techniques as well as mouse models of cancer. Responsible for specific activities related to the discovery and validation of cancer-specific biomarkers and therapeutic targets, and for the completion of other tasks and activities as assigned by the principal investigator.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Plans, organizes, coordinates, and participates in experimental research related to biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.Design, coordinate, and execute translational research projects to advance drug-conjugate discovery programs for the treatment of cancer.Utilize appropriate laboratory models to evaluate scientific questions including cell lines and relevant animal models of cancer.Apply and execute cell and molecular biology techniques (e.g., cell titer glo, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, western blotting, PCR, and immunohistochemistry) to deliver impactful data for target validation and drug optimization efforts.Formulate specific goals and objectives to be obtained; evaluate, interpret, and integrate research data; develop, troubleshoot, and refine techniques and approaches to meet scientific and research challenges.Lead, monitor, and review activity and milestone accomplishments; work directly with other team members to achieve research goals and aims.Maintain an organized and detailed record of all experiments; present findings and research to multidisciplinary project teams; develop research protocols.Supervise lab personnel in their lab procedures, interpretation of results, and troubleshooting.Play a collaborative role and interact with, and provide input to investigators in the McCombs Institute and Moon Shots programs in a timely and interactive fashion.Communicate effectively with supervisor, collaborators, and co-workers on scientific and other challenging issues pertaining to the work.Other duties as needed.
