Central City Concern is an innovative nonprofit agency providing comprehensive services to single adults and families in the Portland metro area who are impacted by homelessness, poverty and addictions. The Community Volunteer Corps (CVC) addresses Central City Concern’s need to assist homeless clients in becoming self-sufficient members of their community to truly end their cycles of homelessness. The CVC Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Community Volunteer Corps.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Hires, schedules, trains, mentors and develops Community Service Liaisons with a variety of duties in the office and out in the field. Provides oversight and guidance to them to ensure volunteers and partners are having the best possible experience with the program.

Assists Community Service Liaisons in training volunteers as needed.

Assists in exploring and securing volunteer work locations. Maintains good working relationships with all partners.

Works with leadership to implement CVC program plans, policies and procedures as assigned.

Partners with Public Affairs to design and deliver CVC program/marketing materials.

Attends CCC Program Meetings to discuss referrals and coordination of client care.

Tracks volunteer time at each volunteer site.

With assistance from leadership, assesses and addresses CVC program concerns in a timely fashion.

Tracks outcomes, demographics, and hours worked of volunteers and creates a monthly report.

Works with accounting to ensure that stipends are paid to volunteers.

Attends relevant community partnering meetings related to integration of services to chronically homeless individuals.

Plans and hosts graduation ceremonies.

Assists with special projects as needed.

Adheres to all state and federal privacy and security regulations applicable to the program, and to CCC policies and agreements regarding confidentiality, privacy, and security.

Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to hire, schedule, train, develop, supervise and evaluate CVC Liaisons and to provide effective leadership.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong customer service skills to work courteously and effectively with the general public, customers, vendors, and co-workers.

Excellent organizational skills with an ability to work independently.

Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to homelessness, mental health, addiction and health issues faced by this population.

Ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork.

Ability to work as a team member with other staff.

Ability to learn and apply training instruction.

Knowledge of de-escalation methods or ability to be trained in de-escalation methods.

Ability to work in an unpredictable environment and maintain composure where people may be hostile or abusive.

Ability to prioritize, manage time and meet deadlines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred.

One year of experience working in volunteer management, community organization, behavioral health, or related environment to include some lead/supervisory experience required.

Preference given to a graduate of the Community Volunteer Corps program.

Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and other standard computer programs.

Experience working with homeless and/or recovering chemically dependent individuals strongly preferred.

Ability to adhere to Central City Concern’s drug-free workplace which encourages a safe, healthy and productive work environment and strictly complies with the Drug-Free Work Place Act of 1988.

Must possess a current driver’s license, pass a DMV background check, and be designated as an “acceptable” driver as outlined in Central City Concern’s Fleet Safety policy.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, TB test and background check.

Will be required to carry an agency cell phone for work use. Cell phone will be provided by Central City Concern.

Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to perform assigned tasks.

Must adhere to agency’s non-discrimination policies.
