Senior Director of Development for their College of Liberal Arts
in Long Beach, California.
About the role:
As the Senior Director of Development for the College of Liberal Arts (CLA), you will be responsible for securing major gifts of $25,000+ with a focus on gifts above $100,000 including principal gifts at $2-million+ for the university with a specific focus on CLA.
This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Development and will work directly with the college dean and faculty to provide strategic leadership to generate an increasing number and amount of major and principal gifts while assessing philanthropic giving priorities and matching them to potential prospects to benefit the college and university. This role will serve as the primary development officer engaged in donor identification, prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and communication for gifts more than $100,000.
How You Will Spend Your Time:
60% - Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward philanthropic gifts of $100,000 and greater from corporations and foundations to support university initiatives.
10% - Facilitate university-wide collaboration amongst corporate and foundation donors that support multiple colleges.
10% - Manage strategic volunteer development opportunities for major gift prospects.
5% - Collaborate with URD (VP and AVP, Development) and the dean of the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) to identify college philanthropic priorities and create successful development strategies for each one.
5% - Write necessary materials (e.g., proposals, gift agreements) for the fundraising tasks.
10% - Other duties as assigned.
The Specifics:
Ensure all annual fundraising goals established for the CLA are met.
Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts of $25,000+ with a focus on major gifts above $100,000 including principal gifts at $2-million+ from prospective donors to the CLA and university.
Provide counsel to the dean on development matters, ensuring that the CLA priorities are incorporated into University Relations and Development's campaign fundraising plan.
Manage corporate partner relationships that support multiple colleges at CSULB.
Supervise and evaluate the college's development staff by setting performance expectations and providing feedback on an ongoing basis.
Meet and consult with appropriate university faculty, administrators, staff and students pertaining to fundraising.
Serve as a spokesperson for the CLA when needed.
Develop $100,000 and up proposals and other documents for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship efforts.
Enlist and train volunteers for the CLA.
Work collaboratively with other directors of development on university interdisciplinary fundraising initiatives.
Oversee and attend appropriate events for major fundraising purposes.
Coordinate with other units as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 7 years of demonstrated successful major gift fundraising experience including donor identification, cultivation, and solicitation.
Experience in higher education preferred.
