Reporting to the Director of the Arboretum, the Director of Institutional Advancement manages all fund-raising activity and assumes primary responsibility for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of new prospects and existing donors. The position develops major-gift proposals and solicitation opportunities and supervises the annual appeal, membership programs, development communications, and various cultivation and stewardship events. The position also shapes the Arboretum’s communications to general audiences, supervising the development and production of the Director’s communications, the annual report, bi-annual magazine, monthly electronic newsletter, and philanthropic web content. Working with the Director, the Director of Institutional Advancement provides leadership in developing strategic fund-raising initiatives aligned with institutional priorities to advance the Arboretum’s mission with respect to scientific research, horticulture, collections development, and education and outreach.The Director of Institutional Advancement serves as a knowledgeable liaison and institutional representative to prospects and donors, and also to non-donor constituents in community groups, garden clubs, and non-profit educational and environmental organizations. S/He is responsible for developing and executing a long-term departmental strategic plan to appropriately communicate the funding needs and priorities of the Arboretum and to secure outright and planned gifts for its programs. The position prepares briefings for the Director and other staff prior to visits with prospects and donors and manages travel and meetings of the Director or other staff with donors. This position also maintains key relationships with the University Development Office staff and other development staff throughout the University.COMPENSATION
