Brief Description of Duties
The Marketing and Communications Assistant in the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES) of the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), reports directly to the Marketing and Communications Manager of CAUSES. The Assistant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day marketing and communications initiatives and long-term strategies of CAUSES and its academic and land-grant programs. The Marketing and Communications Assistant will assist in developing and implementing a dynamic and creative marketing and communications plan to ensure increased visibility, brand recognition and customer relevance for all CAUSES programs.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssists in developing and implementing an effective marketing and communications plan for the College as directed by the Marketing and Communications Manager.Creates marketing materials including brochures, newsletters, presentations, event support materials, and other collateral as directed by the Marketing and Communications Manager.Designs and publishes the monthly newsletter and other marketing campaign tools and maintains media contact list.Maintains the CAUSES website, meeting with program managers, directors and IT staff as necessary to keep information accurate and current.Provides support services for CAUSES wide workshops, conferences and large-scale events including marketing, logistics and registration support, social media and photo coverage, and post-event reports.Actively engages with media and community relations, subscribing to relevant groups and listservs, collects information about upcoming events for each academic and land-grant program, for publication in the monthly calendar and publication outlets.Disseminates information/literature on academic and land-grant programs at events, i.e. Farmers Markets, Recruitment Fairs, Workshops, Seminars, Conferences, Community Events, Stakeholder Fridays, Certificate Programs and special activities and meetings.Assist with planning and onsite support of CAUSES digital initiatives, including, but not limited to CAUSES TV, podcasts, video productions and mentoring interns.Assists land-grant Center Directors and Department Chairs with licensure/permit processes required for special events, markets, and other CAUSES initiatives.Participates in marketing-related campaigns and initiatives for outreach and recruitment of students and land-grant program participants.Monitor, track, and report daily news and trends using Google Alerts and media tools.Reports on analytics and benchmarks for measuring the impact of marketing campaigns.Represents CAUSES in committees, working groups and University wide meetings as requested by the Marketing and Communications Manager.Collects and analyzes data on program participant demographics, preferences, and stakeholders’ needs in the eight Wards of the District of Columbia in order to identify potential markets for programs and services.Coordinates with the University’s Office of Marketing and Communications to ensure compliance with University branding standards, policies and procedures.Performs other duties as assigned in support of the work of the College.Minimum Job RequirementsAssociate’s Degree required; Bachelor Degree preferred.Knowledge of the principles of communication, public relations, social media, and/or graphic design.Knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and procedures of Federal and District agencies or the ability to acquire such knowledge.At least two (2) years of Marketing and/ Communications experience.Photography and videography skills (preferred).Information to Applicant

This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by AFSCME local 2087 and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.
