We are pursuing a uniquely integrated approach that applies modern and emerging tools in genomics, lead discovery, medicinal chemistry, and computation to reduce the time and risks of drug discovery.About the Role:We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Research Associate to join our Mass Spectrometry Technologies group in San Diego, CA to deliver high-quality scientific data and drive small molecule drug discovery. The successful candidate will have a critical role in supporting Treeline’s drug discovery programs by collaborating closely with the multi-disciplinary Lead Discovery organization across biophysics, biochemistry, structural biology, and protein production, as well as the broader organization including biology, computational chemistry, and medicinal chemistry. Specific responsibilities include operation of mass spectrometry systems (Thermo, Agilent), associated sample prep, data processing, and plate-based assays to support early drug discovery projects. Role would focus on LC-MS-based assays for analysis of biomolecules, small molecules, and oligos. Experience in techniques such as Affinity-Selection Mass Spectrometry, intact mass, and additional quantitative small-molecule assays is preferred. Exposure to additional MS-platforms spanning proteomics, metabolomics, or HDX-MS is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will take a lead on lab equipment operation/maintenance, execute on MS platforms, and effectively communicate results to colleagues within Lead Discovery and project teams.Responsibilities:Become a key contributor within the internal Mass Spec Technologies team, supporting our capability to provide both routine and advanced MS qualitative and quantitative data to support multiple drug programs.Independently operate, maintain, and schedule service for LC-MS systems.Collaborate with other members of the Lead Discovery team (protein sciences, biophysics, biochemistry, structural biology) to characterize protein targets through small molecule ligand binding assays.Work with Treeline Lab Operations staff and external vendors to ensure smooth laboratory operations.Qualifications:B.S./M.S. degree (RA) and 2+ years mass spectrometry experience in a scientific or technical field and demonstrated lab hands-on experience.Experience maintaining and operating mass spectrometry instrumentation.Familiarity with mass spectrometry software (e.g., MassHunter XCalibur).Expertise in common wet lab techniques: protein assays, small molecule screens, etc.Ability to work efficiently and deliver detailed results within defined timelines and to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.Preference for candidates with industry experience or academic training.Familiarity with biophysical methods (DSF, MST, ITC), or biochemistry is a plus.Experience analyzing data with R, Python is a plus.This position is classified as exempt. The anticipated annual base salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego is $81,373 to $103,547. The final base salary offered to the successful candidate will be dependent upon several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, education, and other factors.
