DESCRIPTION:
StarVista is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has helped people of all ages throughout San Mateo County navigate life challenges for over 55 years. Our mental health, crisis intervention, youth housing, substance use, and early childhood services help thousands of individuals each year. StarVista’s services are rooted in strength-based, holistic practices and center diversity, equity and inclusion to ensure anyone who comes to StarVista can access support. POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:
The Development Manager reports to the Chief Operations Officer, works closely with other members of the Development and Marketing team including the CEO, and engages with board members, volunteers, and donors through direct mail, in-person solicitation, events, and digital strategies.
Maintain and grow StarVista’s capacity for raising long-term, sustainable funds from individual and corporate donors through a structured, high-engagement major gifts program (a.k.a. Major Gifts Cultivation through our Visionary Program). Work closely with the COO, board of directors, members of the executive team, and program staff, to foster and preserve a culture of philanthropy across the organization.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Leadership
Lead a team of agency leaders, board members, development and program staff, and volunteers, to maintain and strengthen a structured, major gifts program (a.k.a. Mission Advancement Initiative)
Set, prioritize, and manage scheduled program tasks (e.g. monthly planning meetings) engaging team members and ensuring deadlines and goals are met
Evaluate and report on fundraising outcomes to leadership on an ongoing basis, making recommendations
Manage and support development staff in donor engagement tracking/pipelines, acquiring client testimonials, content development (e.g. slide decks and scripts), community presentations, responding to program requests, and other tasks as assigned
Fundraising
Event Planning for 4 events a year, 3 friend-raising/point of entry/ awareness events and 1 annual fund-raiser.
Solicit and cultivate individual and corporate donors, including sponsorships
Ensure pledged gifts are honored on a monthly or annual basis, identify opportunities to increase or extend pledged gifts and engage in asking
Ensure accurate, up-to-date donor records are maintained in the database
Engagement
Fulfil the development event calendar including monthly, quarterly, and yearly events
Collaborate with development and marketing staff to coordinate and carryout scheduled tasks and events
Identify and work with vendors and manage the development budget
Host events and engage in and/or delegate follow-ups
Other Duties
Collaborate with marketing staff to produce content for newsletters, annual reports, blogs, event and campaign materials
Support grants staff as needed

Able to produce clear, positive internal and external communication material
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
2+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, funder relationship management, sponsorship or other related field.
Highly articulate with exceptional interpersonal, writing, and editing skills. Ability to motivate support for our programs.
Demonstrated knowledge of the fundraising process: cultivation, stewardship, the ask, and reporting.
Ability to showcase the impact of our programs on the issues and the people we serve.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proven successful project management skills.
Ability to communicate and collaborate successfully with individuals and teams at all levels.
Display a positive attitude, and demonstrate presence, self-confidence, and good listening skills.
