This is an hourly, part-time positionStart Date: ImmediatelySummary:San Francisco Waldorf High School seeks an enthusiastic and experienced Metalwork or Blacksmithing Teacher with a background in forging, tool-making, copperwork, stone polishing, and jewelry design and fabrication. Proficiency in clay and ceramic work is welcome, along with wood carving techniques.We are looking for someone who wants to join the Waldorf high school faculty and work in a collaborative environment. We are interested to learn what ideas the candidate might like to bring to the high school art curriculum and beyond.Diversity is celebrated and faculty of color are welcomed, valued, and supported.Our ideal candidate is comfortable teaching all high school grade levels (9th-12th), excels at teaching to a wide range of student abilities, is highly organized, and has sound classroom management and teaching strategies.Current metalwork blocks for the 2024-2025 school year:Block 3: (1/8/25-3/19/25) Advanced Metalwork for 11th and 12th gradersBlock 4: (3/26/25-6/4/25) Advanced Metalwork for 11th and 12th graders AND Copper work for 9th graders11th/12th grade classes are held on Tuesdays from 1:30pm-3:30pm, and Fridays from 10:30am-11:55am.9th grade classes are held on Wednesdays from 1:30pm-2:50pm, and Fridays from 1:30pm-2:45pm.The high school campus is located in the West Portal neighborhood which is easily accessible via public transportation.Summary of Job Responsibilities:Write semester 1 and 2 reports and submit them by the deadline.Attend department or subject meetings as required/requested.Attend and assist with assemblies and events as requested/needed (including weekly All-School meetings, Winter Concert, Founders’ Night, Graduation, Back-to-School Night, and Outreach/Enrollment Events/Open Houses).Parent Communications: consistently engage in timely outreach and response.Manage individual budget and order supplies as needed.Clean and maintain the teaching space.Qualifications:The successful candidate will have:Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.Professional arts training.Specialty in metal work, with forming copper vessels and wire and other metal sculpture.Proficiency in clay and ceramic work, with low relief, busts, and pinch and slab techniques.Proficiency in other Applied Arts topics.Interest in and appreciation for Waldorf Education.Commitment to professional growth.Versatility, enthusiasm, punctuality, creativity.High school teaching and/or experience working with adolescents.Benefits and Compensation:Compensation is $70-80 per hour depending on experience. This is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt position. It carries no benefits other than those available through the San Francisco City Ordinances (such as the San Francisco Sick Leave and San Francisco Health Care Ordinance). This position does not continue during the summer break months. School breaks and holidays are unpaid.Physical Requirements and Work Environment:Be able to occasionally lift to 30 lbs.Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold.Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours.FLSA Classification:
