Depending upon the qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position as Sr. Nuclear Engineer or Nuclear Engineer III
Summary
This is the career/senior level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level manage work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. They are fully competent in use of concepts and procedures. They identify problems, develop solutions, and take actions to resolve. Senior Nuclear Engineer represents a level at which career may stabilize for many years.
This position will support Fleet Electrical Component needs for the Nuclear Generation Department. This position will require a diverse understanding of plant specific systems, layouts, and design basis. This may include plant walkdowns, vendor interfaces, industry working group interfaces, development of program/project documents, assistance with long range planning, and other needs consistent with managing components at a fleet level.
The position can be located at any Duke Energy nuclear facility or corporate office. This position will report to an engineering manager in the Nuclear Generation Department. This position allows a hybrid work posture with work split between in the office and remote. The position is a normal office working environment that will involve onsite plant visits based on project needs.
Responsibilities
With Minimal Supervision:Develops and maintains positive working relationships with site and corporate teammates to effectively coordinate work activities.Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity in both inside as well as outside the scope of typical responsibility.Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; decisions may affect the operations or results of the work group and may have some impact on major projects or department results.Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, and documentation to defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies necessary to handle assignments of increasing complexity.Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.Basic / Required Qualifications - Nuclear Engineer III
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer. Experience must have been attained at a "Fully Meets" performance level.Basic / Required Qualifications - Senior Nuclear Engineer
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer. Experience must have been attained at a "Fully Meets" performance level.Preferred Qualifications
Registered Professional Engineer.Prior Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) license.Experience at an operational nuclear power facility.Experience with day-to-day nuclear site schedules and operations.Experience with oversight and interface with vendors and contractors.Job-Specific knowledge, skills, or abilities
Proficient in engineering theories and principles.Flexible and adaptable to various project implementation needs through the project life cycle.Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.Good written and oral communication skills.Ability to deliver superior results within allocated time through effective prioritization, scheduling, planning and execution of assigned work.Demonstrated the ability to work as part of a team, be a self-starter, exercise flexibility, and take personal responsibility for assigned accountabilities.Specific Requirements
Must be badged for nuclear site unescorted access or able to obtain unescorted access within reasonable time frame.
