Brief Job Description:
To assess students' functional development level; maximize students' functional level by providing information for program development and placement; improve students' performance; and provide information on child development and/or issues for specific students to instructional personnel.
Required Qualifications:
• A valid Washington State Education Staff Associate Certificate as Occupational Therapist
• WSP/FBI fingerprint background clearance (fee paid by the employee)
• A valid WA Driver's License: must provide an automobile for on-the-job use.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and other school personnel, and meet schedules and deadlines. Significant physical abilities may include lifting/carrying acuity/depth perception/accommodations/field of vision.
• Regular attendance is an essential function of this position
Responsibilities:
As a member of a multidisciplinary team/GOP, to screen and evaluate children referred for occupational therapy. The main areas of evaluation include visual-perceptual skills, gross and fine motor skills, self-care, sensory integration, and normal growth and development as they pertain to school and home settings
• Establish and implement a treatment program to achieve established goals and objectives that are developed through the Individualized Education Programming
• Work closely with special education teachers, speech therapist, physical therapist, parents, and educational assistants as part of a transdisciplinary teaching model
• Consult with classroom personnel, families, medical professionals and staff and students in regular education programs to promote integration and cooperation
• Maintain written records and submitted reports for each student
• Make use of building /district resources and support personnel
• Communicate program rational and procedures to staff, community, and parents
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Special Services Administrator
• The safety and health of students and others are essential functions of this position
Desired Background Skills:
• Flexibility; ability to organize time, materials, etc.; ability to project enthusiasm; ability to express ideas clearly; ability to learn new ideas and skills; ability and willingness to develop favorable relationships with students; knowledge of current approaches to intervention and therapy; and willingness to model behavior deemed appropriate by the school district and community
• Ability to work cooperatively and successfully with all students, staff, parents, and community
• Ability to develop a program of intervention that considers the use of assistive technology as a tool
• Background knowledge or experience in the area of physical education
