We are a remote-first, dynamic tech company based in New York City, and we are solving some of the biggest challenges in youth sports today.The Position:The goal of GameChanger’s Closers team is to provide the highest quality coverage experience for coaches and staff members of our youth sports teams. To do this we provide features to coaches and staff members that enhance their ability to analyze, teach and improve the skills and performance of their teams.As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the health of our API server codebase and the developer experience of working on it. You’ll own the frameworks and SDK that underpin GameChanger’s development and also lead building features on our website when needed. You will lead changes to our server side codebase to make it more performant, productive, and scalable. You will report to one of our Engineering Managers.What You’ll Do:Lead architectural decisions to ensure productivity as our headcount grows.Drive changes to our API and SDK to facilitate server/client communication.Use modern tools to develop features on the web and across our backend stack.Introduce code patterns and tools to improve developer ergonomics.Collaborate with peers on critical decisions about how our applications are architected and built.Teach and learn with engineers across the company.Promote responsible engineering practices.Demonstrate a commitment to quality using the best practices of testing, code architecture and feature development.Who You Are:Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals.Experience scaling a codebase to a large number of users and engineers.Track record of successful projects utilizing Typescript and Node.js.Experience writing scalable, performant server-side code.Passion and savvy working with the latest in web and server development tech.Comfort working in a multi-disciplined product team.Outstanding problem-solving skills.Experience mentoring engineers.Experience:4+ years in a software development role with a backend focus.4+ years experience with Node.js or another backend technology.3+ years experience leading and implementing design solutions.Our web app client is a React and Redux application written in TypeScript. Experience with TypeScript is strongly preferred.Our mobile apps are built in Swift and Kotlin. This is part of a total compensation package that includes incentive, equity, and benefits for eligible roles. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by several factors including experience, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.
