Project Engineer is responsible for the technical management of projects associated with customer products, including quoting/planning and implementing new business, value engineering, production start-up/maintenance, capital projects, and continuous improvement programs.Who are we?Founded in 1849, Ducommun is the oldest company in California. Incorporate tool life cycle analysis into cost management.Coordinate and assist with First Article Inspection requirements.Create and maintain accurate Bill of Material (BOM) requirements.Facilitate planning changes as required for customer engineering/purchase order changes or method improvement/correction changes.Prioritize and coordinate project activities for supporting departments and outside suppliers.Define project schedules and establish detail project plan including major milestones. Track and update using Microsoft Project as required.Provide status of each project to the internal and external customers using an appropriate format and methodology.Cost Management

Provide cost estimates to support Customer RFQ’s and Proposals.Establish budget base lines and ensure execution to plan, FAI and delivery schedules. Perform regular unit cost analysis throughout project lifecycle.

Implement and maintain a Risk & Opportunities Management Assessment in support of Projects.Develop risk mitigation and opportunity exploitation plans and associated costs. Propose and execute.Assist in writing work instructions (SOP’s) to describe in detail the processing steps necessary to produce component or sub-assemblies.Coordinate information flow with other engineer team members to make corrections or improvements to planning, tooling, or processes.Formulate Build Plans and manufacturing operations to produce quality components.Performs other duties as assigned or required by the position.Required Skills and QualificationsMust be capable of managing projects and function successfully in a matrix organization.Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.Experience or education in Earned Value Management processes and systems preferred.Coordinating activities while interacting with other (internal and external) resources.Must possess working knowledge of Unigraphics NX and/or CATIA or other similar CAD Programs.Must be capable of understanding and interpreting engineering and business specifications, statements of work, drawings, and similar defining documents.Must present to customers, vendors and internal operations, including the senior management team.Understanding of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft structure design and functionality is preferred.Familiarity with the overall Aerospace Industry preferred.Novice; works independently but with supervision.Required Experience and EducationBS degree in Engineering; and/or related experience in job function and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.1-3 years related experience in job function.Working knowledge of aerospace manufacturing.Experience in a matrix organization preferred.Strong communication skills, able to document, create and present project status to customers and management.4-8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in an aerospace products or metals industry.Basic CAD software system experience, preferably Unigraphics NX and/or CATIA.Proficient in project management tools, such as Microsoft Project, Excel and Power Point.Comprehensive understanding of Lean Sigma and Value Analysis (VA) Engineering, including design for manufacturability.Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.Must be able to communicate effectively.Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.Travel required up to 25%.Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.Must be able to occasionally move and/or lift from 1 – 50 pounds.Working conditions are: 75% office environment, 25% manufacturing environment.Noise level is moderate in office environment.Frequently works near moving mechanical parts.Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and extreme heat.Hearing protection must be worn in designated manufacturing areas.Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.Safety Footwear shall be in accordance with the following: ASTM standard F2413-05 with minimum impact resistance, compression resistance and metatarsal designation ratings of 75 foot pounds (i.e. ASTM F2413-05 I/75 C/75 Mt/75), which are viewable on the inside tag of footwear.Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind the work assignments in accordance with business needs, and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential function of the job.This is a generic job posting for a Project Engineer.
