Project EngineerThe Project Engineer is responsible for the technical management of projects associated with customer products, including quoting/planning and implementing new business, value engineering, production start-up/maintenance, capital projects, and continuous improvement programs.Who are we?Founded in 1849, Ducommun is the oldest company in California. Manage and assist Program Management in all aspects of assigned projects including scope, cost, schedule, and risk. Functions as leader of an Integrated Product Team, directing all technical aspects of the New Product Introduction process, capital equipment definition and commissioning, and continuous improvement projects. Acts as the lead interface between customers and internal operations, ensuring that all customer requirements are translated, defined, and incorporated into our business and manufacturing systems. Prepares moderately complex quotations and ROM Proposals, supports Value Analysis (VA) Engineering, producibility and manufacturability analysis, and continuous process improvement efforts.Responsibilities- Participate in the conceptual design of tools and assist in verifying customer tooling functionality.- Mentor coworkers in evaluating and coordinating resolution of process issues.- Train incoming employees to meet 45-90 day requirements.- Manage hazardous waste generated in the work area.- Scope/Requirements management: Interface with customer and supplier engineering to coordinate engineering data and ensure compliance to all internal and external customer requirements.- Identify and coordinate tooling requirements, including forming, functional gauging, and assembly fixtures.- Coordinate and assist with First Article Inspection requirements.- Create and maintain accurate Bill of Material (BOM) requirements.- Facilitate planning changes for customer engineering/purchase order changes or method improvement/correction changes.- Schedule management: Prioritize and coordinate project activities for supporting departments and outside suppliers.- Define project schedules and establish detailed project plans including major milestones. Track and update using Microsoft Project as required.- Provide project status to internal and external customers using appropriate formats and methodologies.- Cost Management: Provide cost estimates to support Customer RFQs and Proposals. Establish budget baselines and ensure execution to plan, FAI, and delivery schedules. Perform regular unit cost analysis throughout the project lifecycle.- Risk Management: Implement and maintain a Risk & Opportunities Management Assessment in support of Projects. Develop risk mitigation and opportunity exploitation plans and associated costs. Propose and execute.- Assist in writing work instructions (SOPs) to describe processing steps necessary to produce components or sub-assemblies.- Coordinate information flow with other engineering team members to make corrections or improvements to planning, tooling, or processes.- Formulate Build Plans and manufacturing operations to produce quality components.- Perform other duties as assigned or required by the position.Required Skills and Qualifications- Must be capable of managing projects and functioning successfully in a matrix organization.- Capable of managing multiple projects.Equal Opportunity Employer Veterans/Disabled
