Three times a week, our Bay Area team gathers in our office located in San Francisco's Financial District (580 California St) for All Hands meetings, collaborative sessions, innovation-driven brainstorming, and events that bring us closer together. Our space has everything we need—from cozy rooms for 1:1 mentoring and focused work to larger rooms designed for team activities.What we're looking forOur ideal candidates have experience working full stack and are excited about owning product and engineering initiatives. Experience scaling web applications with an increasing user base into the millions is desirable.What will you build?

You'll be designing and building systems and services to make our user base more productive on our platform. You'll be working on such systems as:Communications and messaging tools to facilitate collaboration and feedbackAn engaging and scalable peer review system to facilitate the identification & wide-scale distribution of high-quality academic researchA scalable newsfeed, highlighting the latest research in every fieldTools and platforms that enable academics to publish directly on the Academia social networkAdvanced search products and personalized analyticsRequirements:

Solid Computer Science fundamentals are a must; Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related major is preferred but is not a requirement; we encourage you to apply even if you don't have classic computer science training.Good coding habits are a must.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to build solutions and products.Ability and willingness to learn new languages and technologies as needed.Previous experience working on large-scale web apps or platforms in a Unix/Linux environment post-degree is preferred.Strong knowledge of web architecture and OOD/OOP concepts.Proficiency with Ruby, Python, or other scripting languages is preferred but not required.Understanding, creating, manipulating, and querying databases.Rest API/back-end coding.Web Front-end coding experience e.g. JavaScript, HTML, CSS, etc., is a plus.Our Stack:

Familiarity with our tech stack is a plus but NOT a must.
