is seeking
a Hospital Security Officer to perform duties needed to maintain a safe and secure environment in the Emergency Department
for patients, visitors, and staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC). Officers considered for this position will be exclusively staffed in the Emergency Department at UIHC.Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff entering the hospital Emergency DepartmentScreen patients and visitors entering Emergency Department using appropriate technology and proceduresCoordinate lock down proceduresAssist medical staff with patients and families in crisisAssist with wayfinding and information to patients, visitors, and staffPerform security checks, patrol facility, and monitor special assignmentsCollaborate with the medical care team in providing a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitorsAct as a liaison to UIPD, law enforcement agencies and EMSConduct incident investigations and provide documentation for analysisRespond to issues related to door access controlAssist with traffic and parking in emergency room parking lotRespond to and resolve emergency calls for serviceReview security video surveillance for the Emergency Department and/or adjacent areas.Maintain a working knowledge of the security software systems that support the security plan for the Emergency DepartmentAssist hospital staff with escort of patients from the Emergency DepartmentPerform a service of assisting patients with their personal belongings or valuablesProvide effective oral and written communicationMaintain a working knowledge of institution policies and procedures
and adhere to all institution policies and proceduresAbility to walk and climb stairs.Ability to lift and carry fifty pounds.Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.Other duties as assigned to support the Safety and Security DepartmentUniversity of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics is the state's acknowledged leader in emergency care. We have the state's only Level I trauma center for adult and pediatric care. Our Emergency Department is the only emergency room in eastern Iowa to staff board-certified pediatric specialists. We receive more than 1,070 patients transferred by helicopter between in a typical year. We care for nearly 50,000 Emergency-Trauma Center visits in an average year. The trauma team, administered by the Department of Surgery, includes six trauma surgeons, four of whom are also critical-care specialists. In addition, multiply injured patients receive care from specialists in many areas including but not limited to
orthopedic
surgery, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, anesthesia, radiology and the Emergency Department. The Emergency Department uses Air Care, which is the only flight program in the state affiliated with an emergency medicine residency program and is the only flight program in the state supplementing their medical crew with flight physicians. AirCare collaborates with 100 emergency medical services, fire and law enforcement programs throughout Iowa and the region.Percent of Time:

hereMINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:Two years’ experience in security and safety, or fire safety, or law enforcement; or
One year of post-high school education related to security and safety and one year of experience in security and safety; orTwo years of post-high school education related to security and safety.
Possession of appropriate driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.Ability to obtain basic certification from International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months of hire and maintain certification for duration of employmentKey Training/Compliances:IAHSS Basic Online Course to be completed within 6 months of start dateManagement of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) 8 hour - to be completed in first 90 daysHealth Safety Professional (HSP) - to be completed in first 90 daysTwo years of customer service experienceProficiency in Microsoft Office computer software applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc)Exceptional written and verbal communication skillsApplication Process:
