is seeking a
Hospital Security Officer
to perform duties needed to maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the buildings and grounds of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff entering the hospitalAssist with wayfinding and information to patients, visitors, and staffPerform security checks, patrol facility, and monitor special assignmentsConduct incident investigations and provide documentation for follow-upRespond to and assist in all incidents regarding safety and securityRespond to lock/unlock doors, troubleshoot elevator problems and extricate as needed, and assist in traffic/parking enforcementRespond to and resolve emergencies such as fire, HazMat, and security alarmsProvide security surveillance of institution, including physiatric unitsMaintain a working knowledge of computers to process data, operate fire alarm systems, and security systemsEscort to parking ramps and outlying areasProvide effective oral and written communicationEnforce all institution policies and proceduresAbility to walk and climb stairs.Ability to lift and carry fifty pounds.Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics—recognized as one of the best hospitals in the United States—is Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center and a regional referral center. hereMinimum Eligibility RequirementsTwo years’ experience in security and safety, or fire safety, or law enforcement; or
One year of post-high school education related to security and safety and on year of experience in security and safety; orTwo years of post-high school education related to security and safety
Possession of appropriate driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.Ability to obtain basic certification from International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months of hire and maintain certification for duration of employment.Two years of customer service experienceProficiency in Microsoft Office computer software applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc)Exceptional written and verbal communication skillsKey Training/Compliances:IAHSS Basic Online Course to be completed within 6 months of start dateManagement of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) 8 hour - to be completed in first 90 daysHealth Safety Professional (HSP) - to be completed in first 90 daysApplication Process:
