Our Team
Advanced Engineering Lab. (AEL) is an engineering group at HATCI that focuses on advanced technology research and development that can be applied to current/future production vehicles and future mobility. AEL covers a wide range of areas from the development of new vehicle concepts to CAE and vehicle energy analysis and management.
The Position
HATCI is currently seeking a Senior Engineer or Engineer II - EV Battery System Research and Development (BSD) for our Superior Township, MI facility (near Ann Arbor). The BSD is an Engineering Department within AEL, which was established to undertake projects related to EV high voltage Battery system research and development. This position reports to the Manager of BSD.
Core Responsibilities
There are multiple openings at the Senior Engineer and Engineer II level within the BSD team. Core responsibilities will depend on the exact position, but will include a subset of the following:
Execute engineering projects to identify and develop new high voltage battery system technologies, strategies, and methods to support current and future Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis production hybrid and battery electric vehicles.Support the North American electric vehicle plant including localized production parts verification and technical support.Respond to EV quality issues in NA by performing quality data acquisition, root cause analysis, and/or improvement verification.Conduct feasibility analyses of new battery system technologies through simulation, lab tests, and on-road evaluations.Communicate selected battery technologies to Korean R&D Headquarters to introduce them to current or next generation production programs.Manage research activities with external partners including national labs, universities, and tech suppliers.Investigate industry trends through competitive benchmarking, applying that information to set development directions and guide performance target settings.Investigate industry trends by monitoring publication of technical papers and reports internally/externally.Understand and follow the department's business model, strategic direction, purpose, and mission.Set up engineering goals and objectives aligned with the department's direction, and drive execution, engagement, and results to accomplish them.Develop engineering plan, strategy, and budget usage.Work with Manager and Senior Manager to participate in department's resource planning, goal setting, and technology road map creation.Facilitate inter-team collaboration and knowledge sharing through transparent communication.Produce and deliver presentations on key project milestones and achievements.Remain current with new technology and competitive products as a means to drive innovation.Provide technical support for EV battery system related concerns for both pre-production and post-production issues.Support EV and hybrid vehicle development in collaboration with the Korean R&D Center, fostering cross-pollination of knowledge and processes.Travel both domestically and internationally (up to 20%)

Basic Qualifications
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or other related fields3+ years of automotive engineering experienceDemonstrated ability to work collegially with others with the highest standards of integrity.Strong working knowledge and experience in xEV components or high voltage battery system, principles, operation, and vehicle electrification technologyProven track record of engineering projects related to engineering design, testing or simulation of xEVs and their systems & components such as batteries, and/or charging systems.Must be able to work with many different departments within HATCI and with its affiliates (e.g., Korea R&D Center, Hyundai Motor North America, Kia US, etc.) with a demonstrated ability to create relationships and facilitate work across company functions.Knowledge in vehicle or vehicle component test proceduresGood written communication and interpersonal skillsValid Driver's License with satisfactory driving recordCandidates applying for positions with Hyundai and KIA must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
