Summary Description
This professional is responsible for executing and coordinating marketing and communications strategies and tactics with the goal of supporting the parish and school mission to ensure effective, anticipatory and responsive communication to all those engaged or seeking engagement with the Church. This includes those who attend regularly Mass, registered parishioners, and individuals and families who live in the parish territory.
Responsibilities include producing content for print and electronic distribution to inform and inspire internal and external audiences. The coordinator will manage parish and school channels including websites, email newsletters, bulletins, podcasts, social media, digital displays, etc. The coordinator will serve as the brand steward providing consistent messaging and visual identity (logos, colors, tag lines, etc.). This person reports to the priest in solidum of the Parish.
Essential Functions
Public Relations and Marketing for Parishes
Responsible for communication (online and offline) to new and potential parishioners to accompany them as they seek engagement with parish services and community.Responsible for communication (online and offline) to current parishioners to accompany them in their faith journey as they grow as disciples of Jesus.Responsible for maintaining & making updates to the parish/school calendar, coordinating with all parties (pastoral staff, school staff, maintenance and volunteers) scheduling the use of parish facilities. Coordinate access to the facilities as necessary.Responsible for managing all parish and school communication channels including:
WebsitesEmail Communication (Evangelus)Social MediaBulletins and Newsletters
Create the weekly parish bulletin. This requires coordination of content in advance of bulletin publishing. Archive the bulletin for binding at year-end.Mail out bulletins to homebound or former parishioners weekly.
Digital displays and signage (flyers & banners)Mailings
Prepare mailings going to parishioners, i.e. CSA, Year-end or any other topic.Work with Diocesan Publication in sending Christmas cards to parishioners. Priest chooses card, review/revise message and Liturgical schedule.
Create the Parish Directory each year updating the ministry information and parishioner roster as needed.Record minutes from monthly staff meeting as well as agenda for meetings. Sometimes priest will coordinate the agenda items.
Execute effective marketing and communications strategy (digital and print) for parish and school campaigns and key initiatives.Responsible for creating and publishing messages for parish and school communication channels including writing and editing.Responsible for sourcing graphics, videos, audio for parish and school communication channels.Responsible for managing a creative team comprised of full-time and part-time staff, volunteers, and vendors/contractors (graphic designers, video producers, photographers, writers, web developers, etc.).Act as an advisor to the one-pastor, principal, and staff on internal and external communications.Foster authentic Christian encounters among the parish community through a community-focused content strategy.Oversee the parish marketing and communications efforts and work with the FOP and AOD to implement best practices for engagement at the parish level.Planning and executing parish signature events and supporting major events put on by ministries.Stay up-to-date (with support from AOD) on community and marketing best practices.Qualifications
Education, Training and/or Experience
B.A in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related fieldThree to five years' of experience in communications, public relations, or marketingKnowledge and understanding of Catholic Church theology, structure, history and hierarchySkills, Knowledge and Abilities
Excellent organizational skills and high-level attention to detailExcellent oral and written communication skillsStrong knowledge of web management tools (i.e., CMS) and digital marketing toolsStrong knowledge of social media best practices and community managementAbility to maintain confidentialityAbility to work with a variety of personalitiesCharisms
