Job overview and responsibilities
Ensure United’s compliance with 14 CFR Part 5 by providing oversight of the Safety Management System (SMS) and support to the operating organizations tasked with safety risk management, safety assurance and safety promotion.
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, laws, and policies pertaining to ICAO Annex 19 (Safety Management)
Responsible for application, administration and oversight of United's compliance with 14 CFR Part 5 as delegated by the VP or Corporate Safety
Provide oversight and expertise in the development and management of the SMS database
Identifies systemic problems areas within the safety contract and leads change management actvities in order to maintain a world class SMS
Provides divisional leadership with routine overviews of the safety hazards and risk impacting United’s operations to support officer level decision-making
Lead SME for external audits (i.e. FAA SAS, DOD inspections, etc.) pertaining to United's SMS
Provides strategic guidance and routine support for the Safety Action Teams and Safety Round Tables in all operating organizations
Prepare and facilitate the Integrated Safety Round Table and the Coporate Safety Review Board
Determine scope of SMS training for various levels of management and lead the develoment and adminstration of the learning program
Developes and maintains the SMS oversight and training budget

Qualifications
Required
Undergraduate degree in technical, safety, or aviation related discipline or equivalent level of work experience
5 years in the aviation industry
Proficiency in facilitating cross functional groups or activities
Exposure with cross-divisional change management/facilitation
Applied Safety Management System knowledge
Working knowledge of pertinent regulations, guidance, standards and practices
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and presentation skills
Good communication skills
Ability to work independently, and handle stress in a fast paced, multi-task oriented atmosphere
Good Microsoft Office skills
Proven problem solving and organizational skills
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
Preferred
