Job Overview:The Unit Secretary, under the direct supervision of the Program Director, and/or designee, performs receptionist, clerical and secretarial activities, as well as medical record duties.Qualifications:Required:High School Diploma or equivalent requiredPreferred:Medical Secretary school or equivalentKnowledge of medical/psychiatric terminology and medicationKnowledge of Microsoft WordExperience in medical transcriptionExcellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skillsCertifications and Licenses Required (if applicable):N/AScheduling Requirements:3:00pm 11:30pm each day, 2 shifts per week, following the initial period of orientation.Available to attend orientation and training on the day shift initially.Schedule includes every other weekend and a holiday rotation.Essential Functions:Communicates all pertinent patient care information and general environment information to the Charge Nurse and other unit staff.Functions as communication liaison during emergency situationsKeeps patient information board current and accuratePerforms required clerical work relating to admission, transfer, and discharge of a patient. Assembles and disassembles designated charts appropriatelyNotifies nurses upon arrival of an admission and ensures all parts of the patient record are properly identified by use of correct patient identifiersReview charts for needed forms and ensures all clinical documentation is in the correct sections of the chartCommunicates with the admitting office for new admissions, discharges, and transfersDemonstrates good customer service skills when responding to requestsKeeps unit supplied with all necessary stationary and other supplies at all timesPerforms all other duties as assignedAdditional Information:Choosing RWJBarnabas Health!RWJBarnabas Health is the premier health care destination providing patient-centered, high-quality academic medicine in a compassionate and equitable manner, while delivering a best-in-class work experience to every member of the team.
