Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Systems Engineering Manager 2 with the desire to learn new technologies, to join our innovative Software Technologies Organization, and to help develop, enhance and maintain cutting edge products and systems. Candidates will work on complex systems to meet critical mission requirements in all phases of the system development lifecycle.
As a Systems Engineering Manager 2, you will be responsible for leading a distributed geographical, highly dynamic, multi-discipline engineering team, overseeing and coordinating team members, and resources and processes required to deliver new products or upgrade existing products for the ultimate end use in maritime platforms across multiple domains. You will be responsible for managing personnel, executing performance reviews, staffing programs, and career development of employees. You will also be a direct technical contributor on the system development team.
In this role, the Systems Engineering Manager 2 will be responsible for the following:
Lead the development and implementation of the program(s) technical roadmap strategy
Provide technical contribution and oversight of design, development, and integration of systems or products
Ensure the business is appropriately staffed and enable resource sharing across multiple business areas
Lead strategic actions to improve the business of engineering
Drive engineering strategy and practices pertinent to the Naval Systems E&S organization, including but not limited to investments and talent strategy
Drive key talent development and workforce planning efforts
Elevate engineering rigor
Drive predictable financial and program results
Prioritize engineering investments aligned with strategic imperatives
Demonstrate thought leadership on digital transformation
Position may require travel
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with 9 years of experience, a Master’s degree with 7 years of experience or a PhD with 5 years of experience in STEM or related technical fields.
U.S Citizenship with ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.
3 years of professional experience in the defense or aerospace industries
2 years demonstrated success managing technical teams.
2 years of experience working in a technical role
Proven experience as a team player and collaborator
Strong engineering background with demonstrated experience managing through design and production.
Solid understanding of systems engineering principles and processes with execution experience
Familiarity with requirements and interface management and associated tools
Familiarity with Agile development practices
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields.
Program management experience
Experience managing large control accounts with accountability for scope, schedule, budget, and technical performance
Experience with product line management and product line engineering
Demonstrated success in creating and executing affordability initiatives
Experience in systems and software development with knowledge of Radar, Electronic Warfare, or Space technologies
Experience with Matlab
Experience in Open Architecture Solutions
Experience with the Atlassian tool set, Model Based Engineering, and DevSecOps best practices
Design and operational knowledge of navy programs
Ability to read and interpret government or military specifications
