Position SummaryAs a Walmart Distinguished Engineer, you will spearhead the development of the next generation of payroll systems for over 2 million associates. In this role, you will have the opportunity to set the technical direction for a team that integrates with 50+ systems to ensure seamless, accurate, and timely payments for all associates, while eliminating defects and manual touch points. What You'll DoSet the technical direction for multiple teams and systems, and disambiguate large complex problems at Walmart scale to enable the team to deliver.Collaborate with engineering and business leadership to align technology and business priorities.Establish and own both business as well as operational excellence goals, and help define the path to goal achievement.Invest in creating engineering leaders and set up culture of engineering excellence for multiple teams.Collaborate with engineering leadership across Walmart Global Tech to influence global best practices and be a spokesperson for the org.
What You'll BringAt least 10+ years of relevant industry experience in designing, implementing and launching highly available at-scale simple systems to solve large and ambiguous problems.Demonstrated ability to partner with engineering and business leadership, and set technical direction for multiple engineering teams.Effective problem solving and simplification skills, ability to make design tradeoffs, balancing the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of design decisions.Expertise in service-oriented architecture and cloud-native solutions.Expertise with Relational and/or NoSQL Database.Experience with CI/CD and operational excellence best practices.Mentoring/coaching engineering leadership.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 6 years' experience in software engineering or related area.8 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related area. We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
