Team Description:The Drive Unit Engineering team works on mechanical design and packaging of drive unit lubrication and thermal system while optimizing for weight, cost, manufacturability, assembly and serviceability. We also design parts for various drive unit programs through entire design lifecycle. We collaborate with various teams like Supply chain, Supplier quality, Castings, Program management, Drive unit build, Validation and testing, etc. We are looking for a Summer 2025 intern to join our team.Role/Responsibilities:Design and develop mechanical parts, fixture, and testing equipment for the motor gearbox by using established best practice principles.Conduct industry research to understand cutting-edge trends - integrate and improve on relevant concepts into our designs.Coordinate design, prototyping, testing of components, and the documentation of those activities.Partner with colleagues in analysis, prototype, test, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, vehicle attributes, and other teams to solve challenges.Lead failure analyses and experiments to propose design revisions and solutions.Preferred Qualifications:Mechanical Engineer (Bachelors/Masters)Experience with 3D modelling software like Catia/Solidworks/Creo/NXMechanical design experienceAbility to apply GD&T, create drawings, and design for manufacturability/assembly (DFM, DFA, DFX)Experience with Ansys or similar finite element analysis toolsNice to Have:Experience designing castings/injection molded componentsWorking knowledge of oil pump, heat exchangersWorking knowledge of heat transfer, fluid mechanicsHands-on experience creating prototype models and prototypes through individual projectsEducation:Field(s) of study: Mechanical Engineering, or related fieldCurrently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree program at an accredited universityProof of enrollment in current or into next program (MS)Program Information:Timing:
May- August, or June-September pending class schedules.Duration of Internship:
Our internship program is 12 weeks; the end date is flexible based on individual needs.Work Location & Environment:
This position will be in Newark, CA, and is fully in-person. You must be prepared to start onsite for your first day of employment. The working environment will be a mix of lab & office work.Compensation:
Student compensation is based on location and current degree level, non-negotiable ranging from $40 to $60 (subject to changes).Relocation:
May be provided on a case to case basis.Housing/Transportation:
You must provide your own living arrangements and transportation in the local area.Background Check:
All offers of employment are contingent on clearing a background check.Drug Screening:
All offers of employment are contingent on passing a drug screen.Medical benefits:
Dental, vision, and medical on day 1 for all interns working full-time.Visa Sponsorship:

The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.
Additional Compensation and Benefits:

The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.
