A Day in Your Life at MKS:As a Production Manager at MKS Instruments, you will oversee the filters department, playing a critical role in leading the manufacturing and development efforts of optical thin film products within a production facility. In this role, you will report to the Director, Manufacturing/Operations.You Will Make an Impact By:Production Management: Lead the production team in the manufacturing of optical thin film coatings using various deposition techniques, such as sputtering, ion beam deposition, and thermal evaporationDevelop and implement production schedules to meet customer orders and delivery timelines while optimizing resource utilization.Monitor production metrics, including yield, cycle time, and throughput, and implement strategies to improve efficiency and productivity.Quality Assurance:Establish and enforce quality control measures to ensure the consistency and reliability of optical thin film products.Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify compliance with quality standards and specifications.Investigate and resolve quality issues through root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.Process Optimization:Identify opportunities for process improvement to enhance product performance, yield, and cost-effectiveness.Collaborate with R&D and engineering teams to develop and implement new thin film deposition techniques and technologies.Utilize statistical analysis and data-driven approaches to monitor process performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and mentor production staff to ensure a skilled and motivated workforce.Provide leadership, guidance, and performance feedback to foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation.Promote safety awareness and ensure adherence to workplace safety protocols and regulations.Project Management:Manage projects related to the development, optimization, and scale-up of optical thin film coatings.Coordinate cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, and quality assurance, to ensure project milestones are achieved on time and within budget.Communicate project status, risks, and resource requirements to senior management and stakeholders.Preferred SkillsThin Film Deposition Techniques: Proficiency in various thin film deposition methods such as sputtering, evaporation, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and atomic layer deposition (ALD). Understanding the principles behind each technique and their applications is crucial for designing and manufacturing thin film filters.Optical Thin Film Design: Knowledge of optical thin film design principles, including interference effects, refractive index, and thickness control. Skill in using software tools for optical design, simulation, and analysis is beneficial for optimizing filter performance.Materials Science: Understanding of thin film materials properties, including refractive index, absorption coefficient, and optical constants. Knowledge of different substrate materials and their compatibility with thin film coatings is essential for achieving desired filter characteristics.Quality Control and Testing: Proficiency in quality control methods and testing procedures for thin film filters, such as spectroscopic ellipsometry, spectrophotometry, and optical microscopy. Skill in interpreting measurement data and troubleshooting performance issues is critical for ensuring product quality. SPC knowledge a plusProblem-Solving and Troubleshooting: Ability to identify and resolve issues related to thin film deposition, adhesion, stress, and contamination. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are necessary for optimizing process parameters and achieving desired filter specifications.Manufacturing and Process Optimization: Experience in manufacturing processes optimization, including yield improvement, cycle time reduction, and cost optimization. Skill in implementing lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies can help enhance efficiency and productivity.Skills You Bring:Bachelor's degree or higher in Optical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related field.
