Project Description:

Xcel Energy's Regulatory Policy department is at the forefront of the Company's efforts to significantly reduce carbon emissions from the electric and gas system and expand the green programming we offer to help customers reduce their carbon footprint. Our team most recently led the approval of the State's largest acquisition of wind, solar, and batteries and will soon be bringing forward additional proposals to acquire more clean energy generation to reduce our carbon footprint. We also play an important role in developing the policies and customer programs that are helping Colorado reduce its emissions through electric vehicles, energy efficiency, and rooftop solar.

As an intern, you will work directly with experts to help develop the strategies and policies to advance the clean energy transition, find new ways for customers and the Company to integrate renewable resources, and help develop new programs to help customers meet their needs. A successful candidate will learn about how the electric system is evolving, what makes up a customer's energy cost, and how the energy grid works. The candidate will also learn how to develop the skills to effectively communicate a strategy to a wider audience.

This position is for a Spring 2025 start date. These positions may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship's initial term based on the candidate's successful performance and Xcel's business needs.

Minimum Requirements

Current student, Sophomore status or Junior status.Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Environmental Policy, Government Affairs, Political Science.Able to commute to the corporate office in Denver, CO.Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the spring (up to 20 hours a week).Proficient with Microsoft Office & Adobe AcrobatInterest in environmental policy, energy, law, project management.Preferred Qualifications

3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higherCompleted undergraduate coursework in energy, environmental policy, state and local politics, engineering.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $16.20 to $17.80 per hour

This position is eligible for the following benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, Paid time off (PTO), Holidays
