Senior Electrical Engineer (Avionics)Department: Avionics Employment Type: Full TimeLocation: Redondo Beach Reporting To: Carl Haken, VP of Avionics Compensation: $135,000 - $185,000 / yearDescriptionAs a Senior Avionics Electrical Engineer, you will design and test custom circuit boards and other avionics devices, mentor less experienced engineers, set high standards, and guide the technical direction of the avionics team. You will work directly with software engineers, propulsion engineers, GNC engineers, and others. You will have the opportunity to contribute to all aspects of spacecraft electronics development, from architecting new systems to building and operating them.ResponsibilitiesContribute to new spacecraft avionics architecture tradesDevelop circuit boards and electromechanical assembliesPerform rigorous analyses and simulations of avionics devices and systemsPerform development testing of hardware in the lab, from a single circuit board to an entire system including non-avionics elementsOwn hardware through qualification and flight operationsEstablish and maintain high technical standards and mentor less experienced engineersMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field4+ years professional experience designing electronics for rockets, spacecraft, or other vehiclesProficiency with electronics component selection, analysis, simulation, schematics, and layoutExperience troubleshooting electronics problems at the board level or system levelDesire to improve team processes and train other team membersAbility to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concernsPreferred Skills and ExperienceMaster's degree in Electrical Engineering or related fieldExperience with Altium DesignerExperience doing new development work for any of the following: optics, star trackers, cameras, motors, reaction wheels, batteries, harnessing, ethernet switches, FPGAs, antennas, or any other specialized area relevant to spacecraft or rocketsExperience in a startup or agile development environmentAdditional Information:Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
