Department : OperationsDescription:

The ice arena manager manages the operations of the Drake Arena including, but not limited to, the maintenance of the ice sheet, ice use schedule/ice time rentals, building maintenance, concessions and scheduling of arena staff. The Arena Manager works in a collaborative manner with the SPA athletic department, student athletes, ice rental groups and other users of the arena to provide a welcoming and safe venue. They are also responsible for the rental and coordinating the maintenance of the six (6) rental houses and one (1) commercial building, rental of SPA facilities for practices, events, summer programs and other uses. The Arena Manager reports to the Director of Operations and Security.Essential Functions:Manage the daily operations of the Drake Arena.

Coordinate the maintenance of the ice sheet and the periodic removal and re-installation of the ice sheet which includes ice painting operations.

Supervise the full and part time arena staff, including hiring, scheduling and discipline.

Work collaboratively with the Athletic department to coordinate practice and game schedules as well as game day staff.

Manage the appropriate, safe, routine maintenance and repair of the arena equipment including, but not limited to, the ice making, building HVAC and Zamboni.

Keep appropriate records on the building operations and equipment maintenance.

Ability to make change and handle money and invoicing of customers.

Operate the rink in a safe manner by observing recommended processes and procedures. Provide appropriate safety training for all arena employees.

Coordinate annual inspections of furnaces and boilers of rental properties.

Coordinate the rental requests, fees, internal approval, external confirmation and scheduling of SPA facilities for non-programmatic use, including but not limited to houses, tennis courts, track and fields.

Take initiative, perform work independently and perform additional duties and responsibilities as requested by the Director of Operations and Security or other SPA supervisory personnel.

Wear shirts/uniforms provided and maintain a clean neat personal appearance.

Work in a cooperative and respectful manner with staff and faculty members.

Ability to communicate effectively and maintain contracts with tenants of the rental properties.

Requirements and Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities satisfactorily and the qualifications include:Preferred - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.

Preferred - Possess the Certified Ice Rink Manager (CIRM) from the US Ice Rink Association, or ability to received certification within two (2) years.

Minimum of five (5) years arena/ice rink experience.

Minimum of one (1) year supervising staff in an ice arena

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

Experience and ability to use a desktop computer and software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Ice arena scheduling software.

Experience using Point of Sale (POS) and inventory management software.

Valid driver's license, driving record in good standing

Possess, or have the ability to obtain, Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED certifications.

Physical requirements of the position:Ability to walk, stand and move throughout an entire shift of daily activities. Standing, twisting, turning, pushing, pulling, bending, crawling, crouching, stooping, and kneeling may be required while working in the ice rink and with rink equipment.

Ability to lift, load and/or carry up to 50 pounds.

Good eyesight including clear distance, color, peripheral and depth perception vision.

Other Duties:Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

Duties are normally performed inside the Drake Arena and occasionally outdoors in all weather conditions. Duties will require the ability to use a variety of equipment including a Zamboni, edger and other powered equipment. Walking on arena ice is a routine aspect of the job. The Arena Manager is considered "essential personnel" for the Arena, and Operations department, and may be required to work evenings and weekends. Exposure exists to hazards that are endemic to ice arenas. These hazards can be potentially dangerous situations including exposure to gases, fluids and physical injury.This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee.
