Overview
The VP, Materials & Inventory is a critical role within our distribution transformer manufacturing operations, focusing on the effective management of materials and inventory related to distribution transformer components. This position is responsible for optimizing inventory levels, ensuring the timely procurement of materials, and maintaining the highest standards of inventory accuracy and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in materials and inventory management within the distribution transformer industry or a similar manufacturing environment, demonstrating a keen understanding of supply chain logistics and inventory control. This role is strategically positioned within our distribution transformer manufacturing company to define and implement enterprise-level strategies, ensuring alignment and standardization across all plant operations, thereby guiding our teams towards excellence in manufacturing processes and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
Oversee the storage and inventory management of distribution transformer components to meet production schedules.Develop and implement inventory control systems and practices to maintain accurate stock levels and records.Collaborate with production, procurement, and supply chain teams to forecast material needs and ensure uninterrupted supply.Negotiate with suppliers to secure materials at optimal prices and terms while maintaining quality standards.Conduct regular inventory audits and analyses to identify variances and implement corrective actions.Lead initiatives to reduce excess inventory, improve turnover rates, and minimize waste.Coordinate with quality assurance to ensure incoming materials meet required specifications and standards.Implement continuous improvement practices to enhance materials management processes and supply chain efficiency.Manage relationships with key suppliers and develop strategies for risk mitigation and supply chain resilience.Train and lead a team of materials and inventory management professionals, fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.Supervisory Responsibilities:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; coaching, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field.A minimum of 15 years of related experience is required with 5 or more years in materials and inventory management, preferably within the distribution transformer industry or similar manufacturing sector.Certification in inventory management or supply chain (e.g., CPIM) is preferred.Proven track record of successfully managing inventory levels and improving supply chain processes.Experience in supplier negotiation and management.Expertise with ERP systems and inventory management software.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent organizational and time management abilities.Effective communication and leadership skills with experience working in matrix organizations.Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.Proactive approach to risk management and contingency planning.Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.Knowledge of industry standards and compliance requirements.
