Job Description
Position for minimum one year with possibility of becoming permanent Performs a broad range of duties in connection with the provision of ammunition assembly, disassembly, and modification.Duties and ResponsibilitiesLoad, Assembly Pack: * Custom load domestic or foreign ammunition items for both direct and in-direct fire ammunition testing to include standard, nonstandard, experimental, and prototype rockets, mortars, mines, projectiles, artillery, and tank ammunition to include depleted uranium (DU) rounds. * Operates inert loading facility and calculates material blending requirements to inert load ammunition test items to simulate live load density. * Handles toxic chemicals such as: acetone, Trichloride, Freon, denatured alcohol, paraffin wax, linseed oil, and barites. * Collects test data by preparing written inspection reports on damage to munitions before and after rough handling, packaging, or transportation tests or munitions that have been fired and recovered for analysis tests. * Critically inspects ammunition and components before and after environmental tests or sequential rough handling tests (e.g., drop, bounce and vibration) for extreme damage or deformation prior to assembly into test rounds. * Inspects all operating and storage areas to ensure quality control is met and maintained during assembly, disassembly, modification and all phases of testing.* Inspects and certifies material potentially presenting an explosive hazard (MPPEH) before release to the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office (DRMO) or to the general public. * Operates computer equipment as an ongoing requirement to maintain an automated ammunition inventory and a continuous audit trail of ammunition assets. * Provides full range of ammunition/explosives accountability functions including physical inventories, data input/output, compatibility storage, research, ammunition warehousing, and similar functions. * Processes issue and turn in of ammunition and explosive materials. * Prepares Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and conducts/participates in Hazard Analysis Working Groups (HAWGs) for ammunition processes and modifications.Equipment Operation and Maintenance: * Operates, adjusts, sets up and maintains locally fabricated and APE specialized for the trade such as: hydraulic presses, crimping machines, de-bulleting machines, resizing presses, sewing machines, primer insertion/removal machines and cartridge shaker machines. * Operates automated digital weighing equipment, remote video monitoring and recording equipment. * Uses various measuring devices, gauges and explosion proof multi-meters. * In addition, uses a variety of hand tools, paints, stencils, adhesives, cleaning materials. * Operates forklifts up to and including 6000-lb capacity and motor vehicles up to and including 5-ton capacity. * Incumbent may work in different areas to include ammunition, weapons, environmental conditioning or ballistics.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Qualifications* Must have 5 yr. applicable experience, two of which are loading, assembling and packing ammunition or comparable military experience.* Must possess a Class C Commercial Driver License (CDL) with endorsement for Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) and unrestricted for air brakes within 6 months of employment.* Must possess an Ammunition Certification Level II in accordance with ATC Regulation 350-8 within 6 months of employment.* Must possess a license to operate forklift(s) and other required support equipment.* Must possess a HAZWOPER Certificate within 6 months of employment.* Must possess a clearance for unaccompanied access to Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives (AA&E) within 6 months of employment. Physical Qualifications* The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment and sometimes in the field where you are subject to the environment.* Must be capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.* Must be able to view computer monitor for extended periods of time.* Must be capable of lifting 105 lbs. chest high unassisted repeatedly during the duty day.* Must be able to lift and transport 105 lbs. unassisted over level ground for 50 ft.* Must be able to ascend and descend equipment.* Must be tolerant of frequent weapons systems firings.* Must not have color vision deficiency.* Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.* Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the duties and responsibilities.Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements* Must be a U.S. Citizen.* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.* Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions.* Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and periodic retests. * Must be able to successfully complete a background check. * Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.The above are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel in this position.
