Job Description:
The Truck Driver/Laborer position will perform a variety of functions in the Material Handling area including moving furniture and equipment, setting up for events, and collecting and disposing of trash and excess material. Reports to Maintenance Manager. This position will operate the material handling van, dump truck, forklift, and other College vehicles; coordinate with customers' onsite concerning furniture and equipment moves and event setups; and reads and interpret instructions contained in property dispositions, work orders, and job tickets. Reports to Laborer Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Receives assignments from supervisor. Collects crew (from one to three workers) and reports to work site to accomplish moving, event set up, or trash collection and removal.Operates the material handling van, dump truck, fork lift, and other College vehicles.Coordinates with customers' onsite concerning furniture and equipment moves and event setups.Reads, interprets, and understands instructions contained in property dispositions, work orders, and job tickets.Performs work leader functions by organizing and working with laborers at the job site to locate, pick up, and deliver equipment as listed on property dispositions, work orders, and job tickets.Documents completed work on job tickets, work orders, and property dispositions.Uses moving equipment and applicable skills to ensure protection of workers, furniture, computers, and buildings from damage during handling or transport.Employee's safe working and driving practices including proper lifting, loading, securing material, driving within the speed limit or lower if conditions dictate, and using assistance during backing.Performs daily operator checks on the material handling van including oil, water, tire pressure, lights, brakes, and interior cleaning.Promptly reports vehicle problems to immediate supervisor and the supervisor in Transportation.Must have knowledge of safe lifting and moving techniques.Communicates verbally in person and on a two-way radio to accomplish job requirements.In the absence of the Laborer Supervisor, assumes responsibility of the work crew organization and production.Responsible for knowing and conforming to all safety practices and regulations that apply to this specific area and position. Unsafe conditions should be reported to the immediate supervisor and to the Pensacola State College Police Department/Public Safety.Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications : Graduation from high school or GED equivalency and six months experience in moving furniture, equipment, and loading equipment on moving vans are required. A current valid Florida Class "D" license of a Florida CDL, with a safe driving record is required. Demonstrated ability to lift 75 pounds from floor to the waist and move load to a new location within ten feet is required. Successful results of a criminal background check are required.
Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.
Hourly Rate: $15.00
