BI Engineer
will play a critical role in providing impactful and easily digestible data and insights to dealer and JM&A business consumers through reporting and dashboards using visualizations, leveraging a broad base of internal JM&A and external data.Responsibilities
Connect and import data from various sources, such as databases, spreadsheets, online services, and APIs, into Power BI.Transform and shape data using Power Query Editor to prepare it for visualization.Create data models in Power BI by defining relationships between tables, adding calculated columns, and measures.Optimize data models for performance and usability. Design, develop, and deploy Power BI scripts to perform efficient detailed analysis.Convert business requirements into technical specifications and decide the timeline to accomplish tasks.Develop DAX queries and functions to create custom calculations and aggregations. Calculate key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics.Collaborate with Visualization Analysts in the development of interactive dashboards with slicers, filters, and drill-through functionality to enable users to explore data dynamically. Evaluate and implement proper data security and access control measures.Work with Data Solutions, Data Analysis and various business teams for data comprehension, mining, cleansing, validation, modeling, and analyzing of data needed for visualization and reporting.Play a key role in the development, enhancement and adoption of reporting processes, standards and controls in order to ensure/improve the accuracy, quality and speed of delivery of reporting and dashboards.Development using primarily Power BI and related BI tools, as well as Excel, in an Azure Cloud database environment (however; Teradata may be leveraged in the short term).Schedule and monitor data refreshes to ensure that reports and dashboards always reflect the latest data.Identify and address performance bottlenecks in Power BI reports and data models. Diagnose and resolve issues related to data connectivity and/or data modeling. Optimize queries, data transformations, and visuals for faster rendering.Ensure compliance with data governance policies and regulations when handling sensitive or regulated data.Contribute to the maintenance of reporting framework/structure, as well as maintenance of reporting once in production.Provide support and training to end-users as needed.Stay up to date with new features, updates, and best practices in Power BI. Attend training sessions, webinars, and conferences related to Power BI.Contribute to overall team goals.Other projects or responsibilities as assigned.Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Data Analytics or another related field. While a specific degree in data intelligence is a strong asset, equivalent work experience may be considered.A minimum of two years of experience working with BI tools or any data-specific role with a sound knowledge of database management, data modeling, business intelligence, SQL querying, data warehousing, and online analytical processing (OLAP).Experience working with BI tools and BI systems, such as Power BI, Tableau, etc., creating data-rich dashboards, implementing Row-level Security (RLS) in Power BI, writing DAX expressions, developing custom BI products with scripting and programming languages.Knowledge in developing reporting and dashboards using visualizations with interactive views, trends and drill-downs, along with user-level security.
