Job description

An IT Systems Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining an organization’s IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, networks, and other technology systems. They ensure that the company’s IT systems operate efficiently, securely, and reliably to support business operations. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and strong communication abilities.

Essential Duties:

1. **System Administration**: Install, configure, and maintain servers, operating systems, and software applications. This includes ensuring proper security configurations, software updates, and patches are applied regularly to mitigate security risks and optimize system performance.

2. **Network Management**: Manage and troubleshoot network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points. Monitor network performance and implement measures to optimize network speed, reliability, and security.

3. **Hardware Maintenance**: Perform routine maintenance tasks on hardware components such as servers, workstations, laptops, and peripherals. Diagnose and repair hardware failures, or coordinate with vendors for warranty repairs or replacements.

4. **User Support**: Provide technical support and assistance to end-users, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues, resolving technical problems, and answering inquiries related to IT systems usage. Create user accounts, reset passwords, and provide training as needed.

5. **Data Backup and Recovery**: Implement and manage data backup solutions to ensure data integrity and availability in the event of system failures, disasters, or cyberattacks. Develop and test disaster recovery plans to minimize downtime and data loss.

6. **Security Management**: Implement and maintain security measures to protect IT systems from unauthorized access, malware, viruses, and other security threats. Monitor security logs, conduct security audits, and enforce compliance with security policies and regulations.

7. **Documentation and Reporting**: Maintain accurate documentation of IT systems configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Generate reports on system performance, security incidents, and compliance metrics for management review.

Qualifications:

– Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.

– Proficiency in operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux), networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), and virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).

– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.

– Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with diverse stakeholders and convey technical concepts to non-technical users.

– Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with a customer-centric approach to IT service delivery.
