Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.This position requires a high level of independence. Candidates must also be reliable, have excellent communication skills, and be able to apply critical thinking, assessment, intervention, and evaluation skills. Must be able to make quick but accurate medical decisions. RNs must be able to work under pressure, adjust to change, and work with others as part of a healthcare team.Minimum Qualifications
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:Education and Experience:
License as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which was in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.Special Notes:
A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associates degree in nursing and one year of experience.Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment.As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.Some positions require a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.The Examination
