The ideal candidate for this role will hold a valid license as a Professional Engineer and be working toward or has obtained their Structural Engineer license in Illinois. They will collaborate with a team of professionals, focusing on the analysis, inspection, load rating, and design of bridge structures.Location
This position provides a flexible work schedule, with three days working from the Chicago, IL office and two days remotely.The Impact You Will Have
Prepare and review structural and geometric calculations for bridge rehabilitation and design projects.Prepare and review finite element analysis models.Prepare and review bridge load rating reports to DOT standards.Prepare, compile and review plans, specifications, cost estimates and pay items in accordance with DOT standards.Assume responsibility for assigned design calculation files and plans, assuring adequate independent QC reviews on that work.Coordinate the above tasks with the Project/Technical Manager.What We Are Looking For
B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required. MS in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis or related discipline preferred.PE License preferred.SE License in Illinois or ability and plan to obtain.Minimum of 5 years of bridge inspection, analysis, load rating and/or design experience.Successful completion of one or more of the following FHWA-NHI courses is preferred but not required:Safety Inspection of In-Service BridgesFracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel BridgesExperience working with IDOT, CDOT, ISTHA and/or Chicagoland local agencies preferred.Strong communication and client relation skills.Progressive experience with developing design drawings and utilizing MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.Strong organization and leadership skills with a track record for adhering to design budgets and schedules.Ability to perform complex analysis and design.Ability to assemble a complete design package for assigned elements or projects.Ability to work effectively in a team environment.Explore the Benefits of Working at Benesch!
