NextEra Energy is using advanced geospatial data science to develop the grid of tomorrow—come join our world-class team today!Position DescriptionThe Geospatial Data Science Intern for the Transmission Fundamentals Team will develop novel datasets and conduct geospatial analyses to support new transmission and renewable generation projects across the United States and Canada. The intern will work collaboratively with other geospatial data scientists and power system engineers to identify and develop new transmission and generation projects across the United States and Canada.This position is part of a team performing technical modeling and analysis to identify, evaluate, and support development of new opportunities on the transmission system. Our goal is to identify compelling project opportunities and get them built!We highly value experience working with diverse geospatial and time-series data along with exposure to algorithm development and data visualization.Key ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with colleagues to create new datasets and tools for broad-scale geospatial analysis to be used to identify, design, and evaluate transmission and renewable generation opportunitiesAcquire, produce, and harmonize datasets to support automated analysesCollaborate with internal and external Subject Matter Experts to design and implement high-impact analysisRequired QualificationsHigh school grad / GEDMaintain active enrollment in a Bachelor or higher degree programMaintain cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higherPreferred QualificationsExperience in geospatial data analysis and modeling, ideally including open-source geospatial librariesProgramming skills in Python and experience with GitSpatial analysisCartography experienceDesired QualificationsBackground in geography, environmental science, renewable energy, power systems, and transmission planningExperience with HPC and/or cloud computing (e.g., AWS)Job Overview
