First Gear is looking for a CNC lathe machinist / programmer with Mastercam or ESPRIT experience. Must be able to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment and collaborate with the production manager, quality department and other operators.Duties and Responsibilities:Develop machining processes and programs for the manufacturing of products in multi-axis lathes, mills, wire EDM, swiss, interfacing with tool engineers, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers and production personnel.Analyze part drawings, specs, and design data to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selecting cutting tools, and machine speeds and feeds, according to knowledge of machine shop processes. Perform debugging and testing of CNC programs in the machining lathes and mills.Develop and maintain CNC programs of multiple-axis lathes and mills using Mastercam or ESPRIT.Prepare, store and maintain program files in the database system.Write instruction sheets and tool lists to guide set-up and operation of the lathes and mills.Assist in the training of production operators on the use of new CNC machine control and tools.Perform cutting tools evaluations, cost analysis and new technology implementation as well analyze tooling failures.Maintain status reports on program availability on a timely basis.Cycle Time Reduction: adjusting feed and speeds, reducing number of machine movements, and evaluation of better tooling.Responsible for machining gear blanks, and other partsInspect parts to ensure they are being made to print, specification, etc.Aid in the setup of jobsMaintain a clean work environment and perform preventive maintenance as necessaryQualifications:Minimum 5 years’ experience programming and operating multi-axis (including Y-axis for milling) lathes and Swiss machinesMust be able to read and interpret blueprintsMust be able to read and operate calipers, micrometer, optical comparator, and a variety of other hand tools to aid with part inspectionG code and M code programmingCNC machiningCMM programming (Zeiss Calypso) is a plusEDM Wire experience is a plusSolidworks experience to generate tooling/drawings is a plusRestrictions:This position will require work on projects protected under ITAR laws.
