Job Overview:
The Director of Supply Chain Planning is a critical leadership role within our client's organization, a large paper manufacturer. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of supply chain management, including purchasing, logistics, warehousing, inventory management, material forecasting, and capacity planning. The Director will provide strategic direction to ensure the efficient and timely availability of materials, supporting the company's business objectives and enhancing operational efficiency. This role is vital for driving process improvements, optimizing inventory levels, and ensuring seamless coordination across various departments.
Key Responsibilities:Supply Chain Management:
Lead and manage all facets of supply chain management, including purchasing, logistics, warehousing, inventory control, and financial costing.Strategic Planning:
Develop and implement strategic plans to ensure effective and timely availability of materials, aligning with the company's business objectives.Inventory Management:
Manage product inventory levels to balance high customer service standards with the company's financial goals. Set location and product-specific inventory targets.Purchasing Procedures:
Implement and refine purchasing procedures to ensure accurate and efficient inventory management and replenishment.Collaboration:
Work closely with Operations Management, Warehouse, Distribution, and Production teams to ensure effective coordination and execution of the supply chain plan.Performance Management:
Provide direction and leadership to the Purchasing department, establishing metric-based performance objectives and tracking progress toward goals.Forecasting and Planning:
Direct the supply chain team to produce monthly sales forecasts and supply plans, ensuring optimal inventory levels.Inventory Discrepancies:
Oversee the inventory management program and initiate investigations into discrepancies and material variances.Product Launches:
Participate in product planning processes to ensure timely acquisition of materials for new product launches.Team Development:
Coach, train, and provide feedback to direct reports, including conducting one-on-one meetings and performance reviews.Requirements include:Education:
Bachelor's degree required; master's degree and/or APICS certification preferred.Experience:
7+ years of experience managing purchasing and inventory management functions, preferably within a global sourcing environment.Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
Skills:
Strong strategic aptitude with the ability to deeply understand business goals and develop execution plans.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, and various MRP software applications.Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to drive accountability and achieve goals.Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Certifications:
APICS certification is preferred.Knowledge:
Thorough understanding of supply chain processes and best practices.Ability to apply quantitative analysis to support decision-making.Strong customer service orientation and process-oriented mindset.
Additional Information:Work Environment:
This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams and may require occasional travel to different company locations.Travel Requirements:
Some travel may be required to support supply chain operations and collaboration with various departments.Reporting Structure:
