Benchmark Automation is seeking a dynamic and experienced
Applications Engineering Manager
to lead a team of Applications Engineers in the development of quotations for packaging machinery and material handling equipment. This role is a blend of technical and managerial responsibilities, focusing on driving the growth and profitability of product lines, while ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining efficient processes. The ideal candidate will oversee the proposal development process, assist in project concept development, and serve as a mentor for the applications engineering team.
In this role you will be responsible for:
Proposal Development :
Review customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), drawings, control documentation, and other specifications to assess project feasibility.Develop project concepts and gather cost data from historical records for pricing and risk/benefit analysis.Prepare preliminary design proposals, including AutoCAD concept layouts, and collaborate with sales to produce formal proposal documentation.Oversee the entire proposal process, ensuring all technical and pricing aspects are accurate, reviewed, and finalized before submission to customers.Work closely with vendors to obtain part and assembly quotations and develop comprehensive system solutions.Team Leadership & Management :
Assign projects to Applications Engineers and provide assistance or guidance as needed.Mentor and support the applications engineering team, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.Conduct regular reviews of project concepts, layouts, and proposals to ensure accuracy and feasibility.Establish training programs for team members and perform annual performance reviews.Maintain a weekly quote log and manage the quote process from start to finish.Cross-functional Collaboration :
Liaise with management, sales, and engineering teams during concept development and project evaluations.Serve as a technical resource for the sales team and assist in customer interactions, defining project scope, answering inquiries, and clarifying technical details.Work with assembly and engineering to develop testing methods for applications and monitor quality issues to resolve vendor-related problems.Assist the marketing team with product launches and the creation of sales support materials.Vendor & Customer Relations :
Interact with vendors and customers to ensure a clear understanding of project requirements, technical specifications, and proposal details.Travel up to 20% to customer sites for project evaluations and interact with both factory and corporate staff to ensure smooth project execution.Who we are looking for.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent experience.Minimum of 5 years of experience in packaging machinery or a similar industry.Leadership experience or proven leadership qualities, with a track record of managing engineering teams.Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD 2D, and strong analytical skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.High mechanical aptitude and a sound understanding of manufacturing practices.Willingness to travel up to 20% for project assessments and client interactions
