Victims' Services Unit Manager

The ideal Staff Services Manager (SSM) I will be a proven leader in trauma informed practices in the criminal justice and victims services space, with a superior track record of managing staff, and providing direct services in a culturally responsive manner. The SSM I is expected to be responsible and able to manage staff to ensure that services to victims are carried out in accordance with specified departmental objectives and grant requirements. The SSM I will plan and develop methods and procedures for implementing programs, direct and coordinate program activities, and supervise Victims' Services Unit (VSU) employees for specific functions or phases of program. The SSM I will perform work under the direction of the CARE Assistant Deputy Director, and under the general direction of the CARE Director and Deputy Director.
Key Responsibilities• Build and maintain a trusted advisor relationship with internal leadership across divisions, and act as the primary point of contact for the Unit and provide prompt, comprehensive responses to all Department and funder needs and requests.• Provide visionary, strategic, and practical leadership and direction for VSU staff.• Promote the VSU to the Department, public, and allied government and non-government agencies.• Provide oversight of VSU's delivery of victims' services based on evidenced-based practices that provide trauma informed culturally responsive tools and techniques.• Successfully manage the VSU's budget and provide responsible stewardship for all funding sources, including expenditures and routine program and fiscal reporting.• Research evidenced-based approaches and develop materials to help improve policies, practices, and programs.• Engage subject matter experts to support training and technical assistance to ensure VSU stays abreast of emerging best-practices and trends in victims' services and criminal justice.
Working ConditionsThis position has been designated as eligible for telework and is currently a remote-centered position. The position may however require in-person attendance when requested. The selected candidate would report to Department of Justice headquarters in Sacramento if/when required to attend mandated in-person meetings, trainings, etc. Expenses related to travel to the office for required events are the responsibility of the employee. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time.
