Overview:
The Senior Accountant will work closely with other members of the accounting and reporting teams in the Controller's Organization. The Controller Organization's Accounting team is responsible for the preparation and reporting of financial information for a variety of internal and external customers. The role provides a macro-overview of Talcott's insurance operations, reinsurance arrangements and corporate business functions and the opportunity to interact with individuals throughout the enterprise. The Controller's Accounting team members are continuously challenged to identify process improvements and empowered to implement solutions.
Responsibilities:
Assume an active role in the US GAAP and US Statutory financial close and reporting process for Talcott with quarterly and annual deliverables Lead the preparation and compilation of earnings analysis and documentation of drivers of key financial metrics across the US business, including opportunity to enhance current financial reporting packagesCollaborate across teams (actuarial, investment accounting, etc.) to build relationships, and facilitate the research and explanation of results analyses and reporting across products and/or blocks of businessSupport the Company's external financial reporting for both US GAAP and US Statutory accounting methodsPerform required internal controls and maintain documentation of the controls as required under SOXPrepare workpapers, journal entries and reconciliations, as necessary, to support the quarterly closeStreamline processes and procedures to continually improve efficiency and controlsSupport the business in its strategic initiativesSupport ad-hoc financial reporting/analysis projectsDevelops technical understanding of insurance business from a unique vantage pointCreates visibility to senior finance management through work assignmentsOffers broad business and/or product exposureTests the ability to communicate, present ideas, and influence othersChallenges analytical skills through critical thinking, problem solving, and solution findingOpportunities for internal training on a variety of topicsExposure to special projectsQualifications :
Undergraduate degree in accounting required, CPA, MBA, or Big 4 experience a plusMinimum of 4 years of experience working in the financial services industryExperience in accounting, reporting, audit, and financial statement preparation and reporting for insurance entities, including statutory filings (e.g., NAIC statements) and the preparation of annual and quarterly statements.Experience in financial planning & analysis a plusExperience in life and annuity insurance/reinsurance, including ASU 2018-12 Long Duration Targeted Improvements ("LDTI") a plusWorking knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, PeopleSoft/Oracle/Smartview or other general ledger applications preferredAbility to consolidate, manipulate, and analyze large sets of financial data; and to build trending analysis and management reports using Microsoft Excel and Oracle reporting toolsProficiency in building complex reports accompanied by visualizations to meet evolving internal and regulatory requirementsProficiency in accounting for complex financial instruments, such as derivatives, and insurance product-specific reserves (e.g., DAC, VOBA) a plusCandidate must be an established professional who has made strong contributions in prior experiencesStrong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills with proven attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities with guidance in a fast-paced environmentStrong communication skills, both verbal and writtenDemonstrates leadership capabilities through team effort, initiative, integrity, and customer service mindsetPossess a high level of initiative and be a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic entrepreneurial environmentMust be self-directed, highly motivated and able to work in a team, and build relationshipsFlexible and adaptable to constantly changing team and individual roles and responsibilities as the business continues to grow and change*Note* This position is a hybrid, in-office role. The role will start as a remote position but will evolve into a hybrid role at our Charlotte, NC. office. Occasional travel may be required to Hartford, CT.
Compensation
The annualized base pay range is mainly based on an evaluation of comparable positions in the external market. The actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range. The base pay is based on factors including but not limited to experience, competence, and demonstration of proficiencies essential for the role. The base pay is just one component of Talcott's total annual compensation for employees. Other compensation may include annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and recognition. The salary range is: $100,000-120,000.
