Job TitleSenior Staff Accountant
Position Summary
The Senior Staff Accountant is charged with monthly accounting and reporting for contributions, debt, and fixed assets in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This role reports to the Assistant Controller and works collaboratively with others in the Division of Finance and Division of Advancement to accomplish duties and responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Endowments and Restricted Gifts:- Review documentation for endowments, pledges, trusts and restricted accounts in collaboration with the Office of Advancement for accurate record keeping related to gift agreements.- Record day to day accounting transactions for gifts, pledges, investments and endowments.- Update Fundriver with investment activity for pooled endowments and prepare endowment market values reports and reconciliations.- Provide monthly reconciliations and reports for gifts, contributions, and pledges.- Provide endowment information to contribute to the completion of financial reports prepared by VP of Finance.- Coordinate and oversee the release and record keeping for restricted net assets.
Debt:- Record all debt related transactions.- Update and maintain lease schedules.- Prepare debt rollforward reports.
Fixed Assets:- Administrator for Sage Fixed Asset software- Review and analyze invoices per capitalization policy.- Prepare capital asset, depreciation and CIP journal entries.- Record asset retirement obligations.- Complete IT/Capital Asset expense Census Bureau report.
Net asset reporting:- Prepare net asset rollforward.- Reconcile net assets classifications for financial reporting.
Other:- Assist with the university's annual audit and monthly close.- Assist with the preparation of Form 990 schedules.- Assist with implementation of new accounting standards and policies.- Provide monthly reconciliations and reports for other asset & liability/balance sheet accounts.- Recommend process improvements and assist with implementation.
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
- Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting, or related field.
Experience
- 3-5 years Accounting experience in the office environment.- Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.- Higher Education experience preferred.- Experience with Ellucian Colleague preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles related to exempt organizations.- Basic knowledge of integrated administrative system.- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.- Ability to adhere to University and departmental policies and procedures.- Ability to provide and demonstrate quality customer service.- Ability to construct accurate, error-free communications.- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
