Primary Function:
This position will report to the Assistant Controller and will be responsible for assisting with the completion of the monthly financial statement close process, preparing quarterly and annual statutory filings, and preparing annual GAAP and STAT Audited Financial Statements. This position will also work closely with our Treasury team to ensure proper accounting treatment of various cash transactions. This position will require effective problem-solving techniques and analytical skills to review financial results and resolve issues as needed.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Financial ReportingPrepare various month-end entries, and perform analysis and reconciliations to support the monthly close process.Responsible for assisting with fixed asset accounting.Prepare monthly financial statements for two insurance entities and two non-insurance entities.Prepare quarterly and annual Statutory financial statements and various other regulatory filings.Work with our external auditors on both GAAP and Statutory annual audits.Maintain general ledger and related reports to ensure additions and/or revisions to accounts are appropriately reflected in all GL-based reports and queries and update procedures as needed.Review and reconcile feeds from our underwriting and claims systems into the general ledger.Contribute to maintaining policies and procedures related to internal controls in place and ensure compliance with the internal control standards.Develop a strong understanding of relevant statutory and GAAP guidance and maintain current knowledge of emerging pronouncements and their impact on the companies' financials.Monitor NAIC pronouncements and apply them to quarterly and annual reporting, as appropriate.Experience, Education, Special Skills Required:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and 2-3 years of accounting work experience (insurance industry preferred).Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skillsExperience working with a general ledger system.Organized and detail-orientedWork well within a small team environmentWorking knowledge of Financial Reporting Concepts (US GAAP and Statutory Accounting)Ability to manage strict and competing deadlines
