Staff Accountant

SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for the production of internal financial statements for multiple golf clubs prepared in accordance with GAAP for the purpose of monitoring the results of operations, management reporting, and forecasting. Ensures accounting functions are performed accurately and timely to include monthly close, financial review, monthly reconciliations, and other related monthly tasks for assigned sites. A successful candidate will demonstrate skills to support the goals and objectives of the organization, be organized and detail-oriented, able to adhere to strict deadlines, and maintain a high degree of accuracy and integrity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Responsible for completing a timely and accurate monthly accounting cycle for multiple entities and locations, to include, among other assigned duties:
Preparing monthly drafted financials working with site General Managers and Club Accountants to verify completeness and accuracy of balance sheets and statements of operationsEnsuring all monthly transactions are recorded and reconciled to subsystems as requiredRecords all monthly inventory counts and related COGS, prepaid, and accrual journal entries, among othersReconciling and adjusting balance sheet accountsDelivering timely and accurate bank account reconciliations to include researching and recording of any outstanding itemsAnalytically reviewing balance sheet and documenting month end income statement variancesCommunicating pertinent financial information to club GM and corporate managementParticipating in weekly assets calls with corporate teams and clubsReview weekly AR Aging from club accountants to assist in resolution of collections and/or sending to 3rd party for collections
Membership accounting
Review membership data, including new member setup, resignation, and change of member information with related Club AccountantReconcile and maintain accuracy of the Membership Dashboard which is our primary data source for all Member Count, Member Dues, and Initiation Fee detail with related club accountantsUnderstand club bylaws in order to assist in calculation and forecasting of member refunds
Communicate pertinent financial information to site general managers and corporate leaders as necessaryPrepare monthly sales and use tax returns in partnership with Tax DirectorAssist site general managers, FP&A, and corporate staff on the preparation of annual operating and capital budgetsEnsure compliance with company accounting policies, internal controls, and GAAPParticipate in process improvement projects to promote compliance, consistency, and efficiencyCollaborate with senior accountant and other staff accountants, promoting ongoing and timely communication among the teamPrepare audit schedules as assignedSafeguard the company's assets by complying with all company policies, procedures, and internal controlsParticipate, as assigned, in the Company's systems projects, including the new ERP implementationPerform other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications other than their own

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Four-year Accounting degree with 1 to 3 years industry accounting experience preferredCPA license is not required but is a plusExperience completing the monthly closing cycle and preparing internal financial statements and variance analysisExperience with Microsoft Office products, especially Microsoft Excel and Word. Intermediate to advanced level Excel skills required.Great Plains Dynamics/eEnterprise system, FYIsoft reporting platform, Anaplan, or similar, experience a plusMulti-unit, private club, hospitality or property management accounting experience strongly preferredKnowledge of GAAPLANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and interpret retail product labeling. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of the organization.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
