Job Summary:The head custodian is responsible for overseeing the custodial operations within the high school, ensuring a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment conducive to learning and operational efficiency.
Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in custodial services or facilities management preferred.Proven experience in custodial work, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or lead role.Knowledge of cleaning techniques, sanitation standards, and safe operation of cleaning equipment.Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in various environmental conditions.Responsibilities:Supervision and Coordination:
Supervise and coordinate the activities of custodial staff, including assigning tasks, scheduling work shifts, and monitoring performance to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and according to established standards.Provide training and guidance to custodial staff on cleaning procedures, equipment usage, safety protocols, and school policies.
Facility Maintenance:
Perform and/or oversee routine cleaning and maintenance tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and other areas as needed.Ensure that all cleaning supplies and equipment are properly maintained, stored, and used in accordance with safety guidelines.
Safety and Security:
Monitor and maintain security of the school premises, ensuring all doors, windows, and gates are properly secured after hours.Address and report safety hazards, vandalism, and repairs needed to facilities and equipment promptly.
Building Operations:
Assist with the setup and breakdown of furniture, equipment, and materials for events, meetings, and activities held within the school.Coordinate with other school personnel to support special events and projects as needed.Use of the building automation systems
Compliance and Documentation:
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, as well as school policies and procedures related to custodial operations.Maintain accurate records of cleaning activities, inventory levels, and equipment maintenance.
Budget Management:
Assist in the planning and monitoring of the custodial department budget, including recommending purchases of cleaning supplies and equipment.
Working Conditions:Work hours may vary and include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on school activities and cleaning schedules.Physical demands include bending, lifting, and carrying heavy objects, as well as exposure to cleaning chemicals and allergens.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects of 50 - 75 lbs.Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps to a height of 40 feet, and walking or standing for extended periods.Ability to operate heavy custodial equipment and use hand tools, and handle and work with various materials and objects.Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified as a full time position and is subject to the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Board of School Trustees.
