Job Description Summary:

UCAR is excited to announce the job opening for the Deputy CFO. This position is responsible for supporting the Chief Financial Officer and assists in managing the Financial Planning and Analysis, Finance and Accounting, and Treasury functional areas. The position will be responsible for ensuring that the department establishes and maintains effective communication with UCAR program units (labs and programs) and ensures that business needs are addressed in a timely manner.

Here is a brief outline of what one would expect to be responsible for in this role.Financial/Business Management:Responsible for ensuring financial business policies and procedures exist and are regularly updated and ensures support and customer service to the labs and programs.

Provides oversight and an in depth review of the financial component of all monthly and annual reports that are the responsibility of the office of the CFO.

Manages the day-to-day operations of the Office of the CFO such as; daily fiduciary responsibilities, routine approvals, exceptions to policy, and employee issues.

Represents the Office of the CFO in reviewing and consulting on the financial aspects of all business cases.

Responsible for driving institutional metrics and statistics that measure financial results against multiple strategic priorities, ensuring metrics and statistics are produced on a regular basis.

Oversight and management of the activities in the Unrestricted General Fund and the Renewal and Replacement Fund.

Provides support during the preparation of the Audit and Finance Committee packet by preparing the agenda, reviewing the financial report compilations, and coordinating the presentations with the CFO.

Develops reports in compliance with the NSF Large Facilities Manual.

Financial ComplianceInterpret, communicate, and implement changes related to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Uniform Guidance, Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and Accounting Standard Updates (ASUs)

Interfaces with the internal auditor to ensure that all internal audit requirements are met and required audits are supported. Ensures timely and effective resolution of all audit issues.

Team Management:Ensures the service culture is consistent with the values of UCAR and maintains the highest levels of customer focus and integrity.

Manages the teams' resource allocation of space, people, and finances within budgeted parameters.

Recruits, develops and retains staff with a focus on diversity and high performance individuals.

Develops and maintains effective team processes for communication, constructive debate, conflict resolution, identifying innovation opportunities and joint problem solving.

LeadershipProvides professional and managerial leadership to the CFO team as delegated by the CFO in line with the organization's values of providing support to our internal and external stakeholders

Serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and a member of the COO Coordination Team.

Act with the delegated authority of the CFO as directed.

Lead the development of the annual objectives/goals alignment and succession planning processes for all positions within the Office of the CFO and help employees implement these goals.

Manages the Office of the CFO's Diversity Plan.

Provides leadership for special projects as assigned by the CFO.

Successful candidates will ensure their application materials speak to the following criteria:Education & Experience (Required/Desired):Required:Undergraduate degree/diploma in Business, Accounting, Finance, or Economics

MBA or relevant work experience in lieu of degree

Minimum 10 years' prior directly relevant experience, including 3 years' prior supervisory experience

Desired:Experience in a non-profit organization

Experience in a federally funded non-profit environment

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required/Desired):Demonstrate a high level of current technical and professional skills in the areas of finance and financial management.

Experience at a senior level in managing complex strategic operational issues.

Experience in the interface between strategic development and operational deliver.

Experience in workforce planning.

Experience in leading and developing a team approach in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communications and presentation skills.

Understanding of capital markets and banking, risk management, investments and debt.

Demonstrated experience in delivering financial management as a service to internal departments.

General knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Effective supervisory and mentoring/coaching skills.

Proven leadership skills and ability to achieve organizational goals; effective coaching/mentoring skills, and project management experience.
