Job Description: Director of Finance
Maine Development Foundation (MDF) is seeking a Director of Finance to join our dynamic, caring, entrepreneurial team of people passionately dedicated to making a positive impact on Maines economy and communities.
Created by statute in 1978, MDF is a non-partisan, statewide driver of sustainable economic growth in Maine with 15 employees and more than 200 individual, corporate, non-profit and government agency members from across the state. We connect people, decision-makers, and communities though trusted research, leadership development, and creative partnerships to stimulate new ideas, solve problems, and improve lives.Our signature programs and partnerships include Measures of Growth for the Maine Economic Growth Council; Maine Downtown Center; Leadership Maine, Institute for Civic Leadership, Policy Leaders Academy for the Maine Legislature; Realize Maine a network for young professionals; Forest Opportunity Roadmap (FOR/Maine), Seafood Economic Accelerator for Maine (SEAMaine), and Maine Spark/Maine Adult Promise. The Director of Finance role requires a strategic, inclusive, and collaborative leader with extensive experience in finance and accounting, who can drive financial performance, ensure financial integrity and support the organizations growth. The Director of Finance will play a critical role as a member of the senior leadership team and provide strategic recommendations on financial matters and systems improvements. This is a tremendous opportunity for a finance leader to maximize and strengthen the internal capacity of a well-respected, high-impact organization.
MDF has 16 budget cost centers and 15 grants and contracts from federal, state and foundations. We are a small but complex organization. This position is a day-to-day, hands-on , and active role in the general ledger. Several external Excel spreadsheets outside the financial software are used in the daily, weekly and monthly management of MDF finances.
This will be a fully remote position in December with some in-person meetings across the state throughout the month. Work is performed in a general office environment or in a home office where the noise level is low. Work is occasionally stressful and requires the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and successfully cope with the pressures which are related to the position.
The starting salary range is \$100,000 \$115,000 plus a generous and comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, 403b match, all state holidays, and PTO.

The Director of Finance will oversee
Treasury, Cash Management and Liquidity
All accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, and Revenue Recognition,
Prepare, analyze and present timely and accurate financial reporting, in compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements,
Manage and direct the budget process including financial forecasts, as well as report variances and overall financial performance
Conduct in-depth financial analysis to support decision-making,
Oversee risk management and all insurance programs,
Calculate and track depreciation,
Identify areas for cost optimization and revenue growth,
Manage the annual financial audit, 990, and single federal audit,
Design, implement and maintain compliance over internal cont ols,
Oversee management of technology,
Assist with grant management, accounting and reporting,
Assist with payroll management and benefits administration and
Supervise finance assistant.
The successful candidate will have a bachelors degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (or the equivalent of closely related experience); at least five years of professional experience, including performing and managing complex finance functions; knowledge and experience in a non-profit environment and grant accounting; and advanced Excel skills.
