Job Description
ASRC Federal Technical Services is seekinga
Computer Scientist to join ourteam that supports the Federal Aviation Administration in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
The person in this position will be responsible for providing remote technical support of the Visual Surveillance Advisory System (VSAS) and Automation EngineeringThe Aspen/Pitkin County Airport extended Runway 15/33 by 1,000 feet to accommodate larger aircraft and boost passenger count, leading to increased tourism revenues, especially in the summer. However, this extension created visibility challenges for Air Traffic Control (ATC), particularly regarding the south end of the runway and adjacent taxiways. To address these issues, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandated the implementation of a Visual Surveillance Advisory System (VSAS) before commissioning the extended runway for ATC use. The VSAS, consisting of an integrated camera system, serves as a cost-effective alternative to building a new ATC Tower or other surveillance options. Given that Aspen Airport lacks glide slope equipment and experiences no zero or low visibility Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) operations, the advisory nature of the VSAS project was deemed a viable solution to enhance situational awareness within allowable ATC minimums.Applicable functional areas include proficiency and knowledge of computer programming and networkingAdditionally, skills and experience with system interfaces as well as electrical engineering concepts and principlesESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
