How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)

The Operation Research - Optimization team at Delta seeks a senior scientist to join our energetic and highly innovative team that applies leading-edge optimization techniques and latest technology to build state-of-the-art decision support tools in a fast-paced environment. As a senior scientist you will be focused on developing advanced planning and disruption management solutions aimed at continually improving airline performance and operational efficiencies.

An appropriate candidate will have excellent technical knowledge of operations research models and solid computer science skills. Strong candidates will be self-motivated and exhibit excellent critical thinking skills, the ability to synthesize complex problems and create solutions that add value to a myriad of business needs. Ideal candidates have more than just knowledge or skill set, as they also have a "can do" mindset to find solutions.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a comparable quantitative field

Strong background in modeling, optimization, and algorithms

Experience in designing, developing and implementing optimization tools

Excellent programming skills (C++, Python)

Experience in using commercial optimization solvers such as CPLEX, Gurobi and Xpress

Experience with algebraic modeling language such as AMPL

Experience with GIT and DevOps

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong interpersonal, organizational and prioritizations skills

Ability to work well collaboratively and independently

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

· 1+ year of Airline experience, particularly in the Disruption Management field

· Experience in developing and deploying applications to AWS
